Please note that the terms "fire blanket", "fire protection blanket" and "fire containment blanket" are used synonymously in the following, as the term "fire blanket" is used colloquially for this type of protective blanket. Strictly speaking, the fire is fought by limiting/containing the fire and not by actively extinguishing it.
Fires involving lithium-ion batteries continue to pose a major challenge for people and the environment. Traditional fire extinguishers have great difficulties with fires involving these energy sources.
This extinguishing blanket / fire blanket is the simplest, easiest and most effective method of isolating fires involving electric vehicles or combustion engines.

Tested in the ACTS laboratory
In order to test the suitability of VLITEX fire blankets in the event of a battery fire, a test was carried out using state-of-the-art measuring methods. The test was carried out in the laboratory of ACTS - Advanced Car Technology Systems GmbH, the competence center for vehicle safety within the Magna Steyr Group.
The extinguishing blanket / fire blanket met all expectations during the test. It is suitable as a heat shield and keeps the temperatures around the burning modules below 200 °C, allowing controlled burnout and eliminating the need to flood the modules. In addition, smoke and gases are trapped, whereby the fire blanket / fire blanket also acts as a smoke trap.
The complete test setup and procedure, as well as the observations and measurement results can be found on the manufacturer's website . This link will take you directly to the test.
The certificate can be provided on request.
Red bag or metal box as accessories
The "VLITEX Red Bag Premium 100 L" or the "VLITEX Metal Box" can be ordered on request. The carrying bag is virtually airtight and water-repellent, allowing the fire blanket / fire blanket to be carried comfortably on the back during use. The fire blanket can be safely stored in the metal box and is quickly and easily accessible in the event of an emergency. Both are suitable for fire blankets up to a size of 8x10 m.
Features, equipment and use of the reusable VLITEX Premium fire blanket M
The extinguishing blanket / fire blanket measures 2000 x 2600 mm and weighs 3 kg. This makes it suitable for larger battery packs. The universally applicable VLITEX fire blankets smother or contain a wide variety of fires. The spread of fire to surrounding objects is prevented after just a few seconds. Thanks to an innovative folding mechanism, the fire blanket / fire blanket unfolds by itself in just a few seconds. The penetration of dirt, toxic substances and oxygen is prevented by the special silicone layer. Depending on the respective fire load, the fire blanket can be used several times.

High tear resistance thanks to high-quality materials
The fire blanket is highly tear-resistant thanks to the glass fiber fabric with a silicone coating on both sides and has been subjected to numerous tests. The base material and the fastening straps are made of 560g/m² high-temperature glass fiber fabric with silicone coating on both sides, the connection is made of fire-repellent sewing thread. The maximum tensile strength of the fire blanket / fire protection blanket is 2200 N/5cm.
Using the fire blanket / fire blanket - always with 2 people
The blanket is gripped by the red handles and spread out. Depending on the fire load, the fire is smothered after a few minutes. The fire blanket / fire blanket should only be removed after 20 to 30 minutes in order to ensure cooling below 100 °C. After removing the fire blanket, make sure that the fire does not reignite. Even after the fire has supposedly stopped, individual cells can re-ignite or react. Leave the blanket over the vehicle for the removal of crashed or "burnt" electric cars. Depending on the fire load, the cover can be used several times.
Please contact us for more information.
If possible, always wear personal protective equipment when using the blanket. In the event of a vehicle fire, the fire department should of course always be called for assistance. You can find a battery fire extinguishing test with the VLITEX fire blanket here. The blanket prevents the fire from spreading to surrounding objects, ensures controlled burning with reduced ambient temperature and minimal smoke development and increases the fire department's scope of action.
Also for preventive use
The blanket is also suitable for safely covering endangered batteries during storage. This means that fires with major damage can be ruled out from the outset.

VLITEX FAQ / Questions and answers
Are ceiling fabrics or silicone coatings a risk to the environment?
No, the special glass fiber fabrics used are not classified as environmentally harmful or even hazardous substances. The silicone coating also does not release any hazardous toxins into the environment. Furthermore, the silicone itself does not contain any perfluorinated or polyfluorinated alkyl compounds (PFAS).
Does the ceiling require maintenance or does it have an expiry date?
No, new ceilings are both weather-resistant and maintenance-free and also have no expiry date. This also generally applies to used ceilings. However, as used ceilings are contaminated with toxic fire residues, they must be stored in such a way that no adverse effects occur.
How often can the ceiling be used?
This depends on the fire load: How long has the ceiling been exposed to what temperatures? Does the ceiling have mechanical damage such as holes or cracks?
If white spots can be seen on the silicone coating, this is a completely normal reaction in which the silicone coating burns into the glass fiber. This does not affect the function of the ceiling.
Even cracks or holes up to the size of a hemp ball have no negative impact on the effectiveness of the blanket.
Are liquids stopped by the fire blanket?
Generally yes, in a test the blanket was flooded with water and it was observed that the water held. Even alkalis or acids cannot harm the fire blanket.
How do you dispose of a fire blanket that is no longer usable?
Before use, the fire blanket can also be disposed of with normal household waste, as it does not contain any substances that require special disposal. After a fire, however, toxic residues adhere to the blanket, which requires professional disposal.
How do I clean the fire blanket after use?
The fire blanket can be cleaned in the same way as firefighter clothing. Fire residues and dirt can be removed with water and a broom in a suitable washing area.
Please note: Fire residues contain toxic substances. Health protection is the top priority, so clean the blanket with the necessary care. Depending on the fire load and damage, it is therefore advisable to dispose of the blanket after a fire.
Can a battery fire be extinguished with the fire blanket?
No, a battery fire cannot be extinguished simply by removing oxygen. The blanket acts as a shield against surrounding objects or the fabric of the building. The smoke development is contained and flames and heat remain under the blanket. It also stops flying debris.
What does "The Premium M fire blanket is certified" mean?
That the material of the fire blanket can withstand temperatures of over 1000 °C. This has been confirmed by an independent, international testing institute. If you need more detailed information, please contact us.
Are sharp edges a problem for the fire blanket?
The blanket is highly tear-resistant. The maximum tensile strength of the fabric is 2,200 N / 5 cm. In theory, a normal car could be suspended from a 1 x 1 m piece of fabric without the material tearing.
However, improper application or removal of the fire blanket can result in damage. It is therefore recommended that you practise putting on and taking off the blanket.
When can I remove the fire blanket after a fire?
This always depends on the application:
A normal fire will be smothered under the blanket after just a few minutes. For safety reasons, however, the blanket should remain over the object for 20 - 30 minutes. To ensure that the temperature under the ceiling has dropped below 200 °C, it makes sense to use a thermal imaging camera. Water can also be used to speed up the cooling process.
If an electric car is on fire, the fire blanket only serves the purpose of preventing the fire from spreading, keeping heat and flames under the blanket and reducing smoke development. A battery fire cannot be extinguished by cutting off the oxygen supply. It is important to keep an eye on the temperature, as battery cells can react and reignite the fire even after many hours.
When towing an e-car that has been involved in an accident, the fire blanket can secure transportation and storage. Should a fire then break out, the surrounding area is protected.
How many people are needed to place the fire blanket over a burning object?
The fire blanket can be carried to the scene by one person in the VLITEX carrying bag. Two people are required at the scene itself to spread out the blanket and pull it over the burning object.
What temperatures can the blanket withstand?
The Premium S fire blanket from VLITEX can withstand temperatures of 600 °C over a longer period of time and up to 1,000 °C at peak temperatures.
The VLITEX Premium M fire blanket was specially developed for battery fires. Battery fires get particularly hot and can briefly exceed temperatures of up to 1,000 °C. Many tests have been carried out to determine whether the blanket can withstand these temperatures. 1.000 °C over longer phases and even 1,300 °C in peaks were no problem. It is even the only fire blanket on the market to be certified: The independent KIWA Institute confirms the suitability of the VLITEX Premium fire blanket for battery fires.
What material is the fire blanket made of?
The fire blanket is made of silicone-coated glass fiber fabric.
