This safety cabinet is an innovative storage system for lithium-ion rechargeable batteries / lithium-ion batteries. This innovative and certified cabinet system was developed by Ecosafe to prevent damage to people and materials caused by damaged battery cells. The 105 min safety storage cabinets from Ecosafe protect you from the outset against this and other damage that can be caused, for example, by thermal runaway lithium-ion battery cells. The tested fire resistance from the inside to the outside and the fire suppression systems make this system particularly interesting for use in the industrial sector.

Size, storage capacity and function of the battery safety cabinet

In this configuration, the Ecosafe 793+LIX2 safety storage cabinet for lithium-ion batteries is purely a storage system for lithium-ion batteries with two shelves, a fire suppression system and an alarm and safety package. You can configure additional equipment such as socket strips and floor drip trays via the accessories.

Storage capacity of the Ecosafe 793+LIX2 safety storage cabinet for lithium-ion batteries

The model has external dimensions of 1100 x 1137 x 670 mm (height x width x depth). The internal dimensions are 820 x 1000 x 410 mm. The empty weight is 297 kg. The cabinet can be moved underneath with a pallet truck for better handling. The skirting board must be removed for this.

Robust materials ensure safety

The body consists of a steel construction with double thermally insulated triple walls. The thermal insulation panels limit thermal bridges and the outer walls are coated with a white epoxy paint. Inside, the safety storage cabinet is lined with melamine interior panels.

Optional socket strips - turning the storage cabinet into a charging cabinet

If the batteries are not only to be stored inside the safety storage cabinet, but also charged, this battery cabinet can be supplied directly with integrated socket strips. Depending on individual requirements, up to 2 socket strips are possible with this model, the cables are then routed to the outside through a cable bushing. Simply select the appropriate variant.

The safe storage of Li-ion batteries was the top priority when developing this cabinet for Ecosafe. The various safety mechanisms that protect the environment in the event of a battery fire are correspondingly extensive and sophisticated.

Fire resistance tested in the fire chamber test and certified as type 90 in accordance with EN 14470-1 - fire resistance over 105 minutes

If a Li-ion battery catches fire, the environment must be reliably protected from the resulting hazards. The battery safety storage cabinets from Ecosafe, such as the Ecosafe 793+LIX3 safety storage cabinet presented here, have a fire resistance of 105 minutes in the event of a fire from the outside. For fires from the inside, a fire resistance of approx. 90 minutes was achieved. This time remains before the burning batteries cause damage to the environment. Within these 90 minutes, the surrounding area can be evacuated, initial countermeasures can be taken with suitable battery fire extinguishers and extinguishing agents and the fire department can be called to ensure optimum safety.

Double protection - for the environment and for the stored lithium-ion batteries

The Ecosafe models have undergone a double fire protection test. The F90 fire resistance rating applies both from the inside to the outside and from the outside to the inside. This means that the environment is protected if the batteries catch fire (protection from the inside out), but the Li-ion batteries are also protected if a fire breaks out in the vicinity of the safety storage cabinet (protection from the outside in).

Fire suppression system provides additional safety

The system is triggered thermally at a temperature of 79°C. The extinguishing agent is a mixture of potassium nitrate and polyepoxide, which acts on the burning lithium-ion batteries. The aerosol suppresses the chemical chain reaction that occurs during a fire for a period of approx. 30 minutes. No electricity is required to trigger the fire extinguisher. Careful ventilation of the room after use is recommended. The system requires no special maintenance and has a service life of 15 years.

Safety and alarm package enables connection to on-site alarm systems

In this configuration, the cabinet is additionally equipped with an optical smoke detector, a visual (flashing light) and acoustic (alarm sound) alarm system. A connection to the fire alarm control panel can be established via the control box using a potential-free contact. Cables are routed inside the rear wall of the cabinet and reappear on the roof of the safety storage cabinet.

Intelligent locking mechanisms for the enclosure doors

The door can be locked with an enclosed key. In the event of a fire in the enclosure, the thermal triggering of the automatic door closure ensures that the door closes automatically.

Exhaust air openings close automatically in the event of a fire

There is a Ø 100 mm ventilation pipe for supply and exhaust air on the cabinet. At an interior temperature of approx. 70°C, the exhaust air openings are closed by the safety technology. This is done by a hot-melt adhesive. The door seals also foam up in the event of a fire. The enclosure also has a fixing point for the earthing connection.

Certification and maintenance of the battery safety storage cabinet

There are currently no legal regulations for the storage of lithium batteries / lithium-ion batteries. However, by purchasing this storage system, you are optimally equipped for any regulations that may arise. Lithium-ion batteries are class 9 hazardous goods.

Extensive testing in accordance with EN 14470-1

These battery cabinet systems from Ecosafe are tested as safety cabinets in accordance with EN 14470-1 (fire resistance of safety cabinets for flammable liquids) and are also certified as type 90. This means that the fire resistance of the cabinets has been tested and classified over 90 minutes according to the type. In the fire chamber test, a fire resistance of 105 minutes was achieved when exposed to fire from the outside in accordance with ISO 834. Pictograms in accordance with ISO 3864, ISO 7010 and the European Directive 92/58/EEC are affixed to the cabinet.
