Please note that the terms "fire blanket", "fire protection blanket" and "fire containment blanket" are used synonymously in the following, as the term "fire blanket" is used colloquially for this type of protective blanket. Strictly speaking, the fire is fought by limiting/containing the fire and not by actively extinguishing it. Fires involving lithium-ion batteries continue to pose a major challenge for people and the environment. Traditional fire extinguishers have great difficulties with fires involving these energy sources.

Protection concept for e-mobility

The JUTEC fire protection blanket serves to secure your batteries in the event of fire and protects against flame spread, overheating and damage.

Features of the JUTEC surface-mounted cabinet with fire protection cover

The surface-mounted cabinet with lock is made of galvanized sheet steel and is powder-coated in red. The external dimensions of the cabinet are 300 x 220 x 810 mm.

The flexible cover consists of a grammage of approx. 625g / m² with a thickness of approx. 0.7 mm. Four handle loops (2 red, 2 blue) and corner reinforcements made of aluminized fabric are sewn on. The fire protection blanket measures approx. 2,700 x 3,000 mm and is therefore suitable for small vehicles, driverless transport systems and similar. It also maintains constant temperatures of up to 1,150 °C and 1,300 °C for short periods. The melting point is only at 1,600 °C. The blanket comes in a red PVC transport bag.

The base material of the vehicle fire blanket is made of special high-temperature fabric with a high-temperature finish on both sides (RH/Q 94%). There is also a mineral vermiculite coating on both sides, which partially binds hydrofluoric acid (HF). The corners are also reinforced with KA-2 hard fabric. In addition, there is no fiber breakage under thermal shock stress, as occurs with glass fiber, for example. In addition, the silicate fabric with 96% SiO2 content enables cooling from above, which is extremely useful for firefighting operations.

5-finger glove included

Included is a 5-finger glove in size 10, which is suitable up to 1000 °C radiant heat. The material on the outer hand and cuff is made of Preox aramid fabric and is aluminized on one side. The palm is abrasion-resistant and made of Sebatan leather (heat-resistant up to 250 °C for short periods). The length is approx. 380 mm. (Further information: CE KAT III, EN 388, EN 407)

Protection and prevention

The JUTEC fire blanket prevents the release of flames, which isolates the fires and thus enables a reduction in the oxygen content of the fire, which supports the extinguishing work.

Use of the fire blanket in case of fire

If a clear hissing noise or even smoke can be detected in the battery area, place the fire blanket over the vehicle. As the fire in the e-battery jumps from cell to cell in a chain reaction, the burning of all cells is a lengthy process and can vary depending on the manufacturer and type. Leave the blanket on the vehicle or battery until the chain reaction has ended and always alert the fire department.

Blanket should only be removed by the emergency services

The fire blanket is intended to prevent the flames from spreading to the surrounding area. Always leave the fire blanket on the vehicle until the emergency services arrive. The blanket should only be removed by the emergency services.

Safe to use thanks to classified fabric in accordance with the European fire protection test and additional safety thanks to an electrostatic certificate

The material of the fire blanket has excellent chemical resistance. In addition, a European fire protection test was carried out on the fabric in accordance with DIN EN 13501-1 with the result "Class A1, non-combustible". There is also an EC safety data sheet in accordance with 91/115/EEC and an electrostatic certificate in accordance with DIN 54345-1.

At EU level, there is a standard DIN EN 1869:201910 for the term extinguishing blanket / fire blanket, but this refers to the standard fire test object "deep-frying equipment with a filling quantity of max. 3 liters of cooking oil/fat", so that an extinguishing blanket / fire blanket according to the above standard is intended for extinguishing cooking oil and cooking fat fires.
