The storage and charging cabinet has been developed for indoor use to safely store and charge lithium-ion batteries, focusing mainly on batteries for bicycles, scooters, hand tools and similar applications.

Dimensions and features of the LOXK1100 charging cabinet.

The LOXK110 charging cabinet weighs approx. 70 kg and has external dimensions of 760 x 610 x 1120 mm or 710 x 510 x 950 mm. The power supply is 230 V 16 A, the maximum load capacity is 70 kg. The cabinet should be installed indoors under normal conditions. The cabinet has 2 shelves inside, with a socket strip with 8 sockets in the upper shelf.

Technical features of the charging cabinet: Fire-retardant materials so that there is enough time to take further measures

The cabinet is made of materials with a fire resistance rating of over 90 minutes, which means that in the event of a fire, it protects the batteries and other items stored in the cabinet for a considerable period of time. A pressure relief valve reduces the pressure in the cabinet in the event of an explosion and lowers the internal pressure to a normal level.

A comprehensive detection system is available ex works

The cabinet is equipped with temperature detectors and two smoke detectors that are activated if there are signs of fire or smoke. These detectors are linked to notification software that sends both SMS and email alerts to inform users of potential hazards.

Aerosol fire suppression system provides additional safety

In the event of a fire, the charging cabinet has an aerosol fire suppression system to help fight the fire and prevent it from spreading.

How the aerosol fire suppression system works

The LOXXER battery storage and charging cabinets are equipped with two smoke detectors that can ensure rapid detection of a lithium-ion battery in the thermal runaway. This activates the aerosol at the first hint of smoke to react immediately to the situation.

Fire containment for at least 90 minutes

To test the effectiveness of the cabinets with the aerosol, extensive tests were carried out at the KIWA Institute with lithium-ion batteries in the Thermal Runaway. These tests show that Loxxer's systems can control the burning battery for at least 90 minutes and ensure that the remaining batteries in the cabinet are protected.

Functions of the cabinet and the integrated sockets

The two shelves have a white grid structure measuring approx. 66 x 66 mm. A socket strip with 8 sockets can be charged on the top shelf. The middle shelf and the base of the cabinet itself can be used as storage levels.

A pressure relief valve reduces the pressure in the event of a deflagration inside the cabinet

A pressure relief valve in the event of a battery explosion, opens in the event of a fire and reduces the energy accordingly.

Further features of the battery charging cabinet

Other features include hinged cabinet doors, adjustable support feet for aligning the cabinet, ventilation systems for heat dissipation and intelligent software for monitoring and controlling operation.

Priority areas and operation during smoke detection

The operation of the charging cabinet is designed to ensure the safety of users and the integrity of the stored batteries. The five priority areas include

In the event of smoke detection, the charging cabinet performs a series of predefined steps to minimize potential hazards:

  • Triggering an audible and visual alarm through a siren and a red rotating light to alert users.
  • Notifying the smart software, which in turn sends SMS and email notifications to users.
  • Interruption of battery charging to prevent further accumulation of energy.
  • Deactivation of active ventilation to prevent further spread of smoke or fire.
  • Activation of the aerosol fire suppression system to contain the fire and ensure the safety of the surrounding area.
  • Overall, the charging cabinet provides a safe and reliable solution for charging and storing lithium-ion batteries for bikes and scooters, with its technical features and safety precautions minimizing potential risks.

General guidelines for battery storage

There are currently no legal regulations for the storage of lithium batteries / lithium-ion batteries. Only VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH issues general safety rules for damage prevention in its publication VdS 3103 : 2019-06 (03). It is advisable to clarify your requirements with your property insurance company in advance.
