1. Brief Overview

The Fingerhuth fire containment blanket S-TYPE VEHICLE (hereinafter also referred to synonymously as a fire extinguishing blanket or fire protection blanket) is designed for covering damaged or burning devices with lithium-ion batteries. Its purpose is to isolate flames under the blanket as effectively as possible, reduce the temperature, and limit explosions under the blanket.

Fires involving lithium-ion batteries present a particular challenge, as conventional fire extinguishers often reach their limits here. The S-TYPE fire containment blanket offers a simple, quickly deployable way to enclose a fire source and thus protect the surrounding area.

Please note: In general usage, the term “fire blanket” is often used. Technically, this is a fire containment or fire protection blanket – the fire is primarily contained, not actively extinguished.

  • Fire containment and enclosure of fires or fire sources involving lithium-ion batteries

  • Suitable, among other things, for:

    • Motor vehicles and lithium-ion batteries

    • Areas of use: e.g. auto repair shops, garages, charging stations, and warehouse logistics

    • Limitation of the surrounding temperature

Note on the standard situation (“fire blanket”):
The European standard DIN EN 1869:2019-10 refers to fire blankets for grease and cooking oil fires (deep-frying fats up to 3 l). The fire containment hood PREMIUM offered here is not certified according to this standard and is not intended for cooking oil and cooking fat fires. Its intended use is the containment or limitation of Li-ion battery fires.

5. Instructions for Use & Operation

Basic principle of application:

  • The blanket is unfolded using the handles and carefully placed over the burning or endangered object by 2 people
  • Depending on the fire load, the fire is usually smothered or significantly contained within a short time
  • To support sufficient cooling (below approx. 100 °C), the blanket should remain on the object for as long as possible

Important notes:

  • After removing the blanket, check that no re-ignition occurs – even individual battery cells may react again after a delay
  • If possible, always use personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • In the event of fires, the fire brigade should always be called in

Storage / Keeping:

  • Store the blanket in the trolley or in a PVC insert bag
  • Store in a dry place; do not place any loads directly on the blanket
