Businesses and private individuals are increasingly faced with the task of safely transporting or storing rechargeable batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are always classified as hazardous goods, regardless of whether they are new, intact, used or damaged. B&W has developed this case system especially for e-bike batteries, which, in addition to safe storage, also enables defective lithium-ion batteries to be transported in accordance with ADR regulations.
The batteries shown in the pictures are not included in the scope of delivery.
B&W battery transport case 908.8 - perfect for storing and transporting lithium-ion batteries
B&W has developed this high-quality and innovative storage and transportation system for lithium-ion batteries. A lithium battery/lithium-ion rechargeable battery with the substance numbers UN3480 or UN3481 can be transported or stored in the inner container. This system is also recommended for private use if the batteries are to be stored for long periods of time.
Also ideal for transporting defective batteries
In addition to the storage and transportation of intact lithium batteries, the B&W rechargeable battery transport case 908.8 is also suitable for damaged cells, which represent a significant source of danger both during transportation and storage. This approval makes the battery case much more flexible to use than comparable models.
Cable grommet enables charging in the case
An integrated cable feed-through enables charging in the case. To do this, the cable must be fed into the case when it is open. Please refer to the pictures.
With non-flammable padding and a fireproof protective bag (40 x 60 cm) and active carbon filter
The B&W battery transport case 908.8 is equipped with specially developed, non-flammable padding and a fireproof protective bag. This means that the Li-ion batteries packed in the case can not only be transported safely, but the protective bag also has a fire-retardant effect in the event of a fire. A protective bag measuring 40 x 60 cm is included in the case. Additional extinguishing granules and extinguishing agents, such as Pyrobubbles from Genius, which are used with other battery transport cases, are not necessary with the B&W 908.8 battery transport case. An active carbon filter reduces the escaping gases and prevents the formation of soot in the event of a potential battery fire.
Battery transport box also protects against mechanical shocks
In addition to protecting against the dangers of defective batteries, the case also protects against the causes of many defective batteries - mechanical stress. It is not uncommon for a defect in the Li-ion battery to be caused by improper storage or mechanical force during transportation (e.g. when the battery falls to the ground from a great height); it is particularly common for e-bike batteries to fall to the ground and thus suffer potential damage.
Padding of the battery box absorbs shocks
Thanks to the cube foam, the Li-ion batteries stored and transported in the B&W 908.8 battery transport case are effectively protected against external impact, especially mechanical impact. If the battery box with the Li-ion batteries inside falls, part of the force is absorbed by the cube foam, which often prevents damage to the batteries or battery cells. It is therefore advisable to always store the batteries in the battery case when they are not in use in order to offer the greatest possible safety.
Many possible uses for the 908.8 battery transport case from B&W
The 908.8 transport case from B&W is made from lightweight polypropylene and is ideal for a wide range of applications, for example with lithium-ion batteries for e-bikes, power tools and laptops, with a clear focus on e-bike batteries.
Use of the B&W transport case in the commercial sector
Crafts businesses are increasingly working with battery-powered tools - whether cordless screwdrivers, hammer drills or Flex, today almost all tools are also available with powerful lithium-ion batteries, which are much easier to handle. If the Li-ion batteries are to be stored safely, this case is also ideal. This not only protects the batteries perfectly, but also the surrounding area if the Li-ion batteries should catch fire.
Unique fire protection system from B&W incl. active carbon filter
The fire protection system from B&W is unique and patented. This means that the case also offers a high level of safety if a battery starts to burn unobserved. At the same time, the case has an active carbon filter, which reduces the gases and soot that escape during a fire. In the event of fire, the outer sides remain below 100°C.
Storing Li-Po batteries from model making in the B&W transport case
Rechargeable batteries have been used in model making for a long time. Whereas NiCd or NiMh batteries were used in the past, Li-ion batteries and lithium polymer batteries are generally used today because the energy density of LiPo batteries is significantly higher. The B&W battery transport case 908.8 offers sufficient storage space for various battery cells to transport the LiPo batteries safely to the place of use or to store them safely between uses.
Size and capacity of the 908.8 battery transport case from B&W
The 908.8 battery transport case from B&W has an empty weight of 10.23 kg, with a maximum gross weight of 18.23 kg.
Compact dimensions with ergonomic handling
With external dimensions of 510 x 420 x 215 mm and internal dimensions of 387 x 264 x 130 mm (length x width x height), the 908.8 battery transport case from B&W is not particularly compact and is therefore not suitable for applications in restricted environments. However, it offers plenty of storage space, even for larger batteries. In addition, the boxes are stackable and therefore take up minimal storage space.
Battery transport case 908.8 from B&W - a safe system for you and the environment
Individual and expensive transport solutions can be replaced by using this economical and standardized product. The boxes are permanently reusable.
Certification and guidelines that the B&W transport case fulfills
Lithium batteries fall into dangerous goods class 9, which means that the goods pose a risk to the environment during transportation that should not be underestimated. Numerous specifications and guidelines must therefore be observed when transporting lithium batteries.
The battery transport case 908.8 issuitable for transportation in accordance with SV 376 of the ADR and packing instruction P 908
All lithium-ion cells or batteries and lithium-metal cells or batteries that have been damaged and no longer comply with the applicable regulations according to their manual must comply with the provisions of Special Provision 376 (SV 376). This applies, for example, to cells that have leaked or degassed, have suffered external or mechanical damage or have been identified as defective for safety reasons or could no longer be diagnosed prior to transportation. These cells must then be packed in accordance with packing instruction P 908. According to this directive, for example, it must be ensured that any electrolytes released are absorbed and a non-electrically conductive thermal insulation material must ensure that the environment is protected from dangerous heat development.
Suitable for transportation in aircraft* with eyelets for padlocks
Thanks to the automatic air pressure equalization valve, the case is also suitable for transport in an aircraft. Padlocks can also be fitted using two eyelets. However, we recommend that you clarify the packaging requirements with your air freight forwarder in advance. Please note that lithium-ion batteries over 100 Wh cannot be carried on passenger aircraft.
The manufacturer B&W - an institution in the field of transport cases

With innovative and individual solutions, the cases guarantee safe and comfortable transportation of high-quality case contents. As a global specialist supplier, the company develops innovative products at its site in Ibbenbüren, Münsterland.
Future-oriented
Lithium-ion batteries will be indispensable in all industrial applications in the coming years. However, if used improperly, batteries can pose a potential risk during production, storage and transportation that should not be underestimated. By purchasing the B&W battery transport case 908.8, you protect yourself against major financial losses right from the start.
In use for you
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you!
*Please note that the certification for air transportation relates exclusively to air freight flights (cargo). In addition, aviation regulations stipulate that batteries with a capacity of > 100 Wh may not be carried on passenger aircraft.
