Please note that the terms "fire blanket", "fire protection blanket" and "fire containment blanket" are used synonymously in the following, as the term "fire blanket" is used colloquially for this type of protective blanket. Strictly speaking, the fire is fought by limiting/containing the fire and not by actively extinguishing it. Fires involving lithium-ion batteries continue to pose a major challenge for people and the environment. Protection concept for lithium-ion batteries / accumulators

The JUTEC fire protection blanket is used to protect your batteries in the event of fire and protects against flame propagation, overheating and damage. The fabric is specially designed for direct application to lithium-ion batteries. The material thickness is approx. 14 mm.

Properties of the JUTEC fire protection blanket

The flexible cover consists of a grammage of approx. 1,250 g/m² with a thickness of approx. 14 mm. Four grip loops (2 red, 2 blue) and corner reinforcements made of aluminized fabric are sewn on. The fire protection blanket measures approx. 1,800 x 2,000 mm and is therefore suitable for small to medium-sized lithium batteries. It also maintains constant temperatures of up to 1,150 °C and 1,300 °C for short periods.

Base material allows water absorption and prevents "ballooning"

The base material of the fire protection blanket is a special high-temperature fabric with a mineral coating. The material also absorbs extinguishing and sprinkler water very well, which ensures an optimum cooling effect and therefore more efficient firefighting. The blanket is also safe to use thanks to its limited gas permeability, which prevents ballooning.

With protective case for easy handling

The fire suppression set from JUTEC comes with a carrying case for easy transportation. The protective case comes in the color red (similar to RAL 2002). The protective case measures 40 x 30 x 22.3 cm and weighs approx. 2.2 kg.

Protection and prevention

The JUTEC fire blanket prevents the release of flames, which isolates the fires and thus enables a reduction in the oxygen content at the fire scene, which supports the extinguishing work.

Use of the fire blanket in case of fire

If a clear hissing noise or even smoke can be detected in the battery area, place the fire blanket over the affected battery. As the fire in the e-battery jumps from cell to cell in a chain reaction, the burning of all cells is a lengthy process and can vary depending on the manufacturer and type. Leave the blanket on the battery until the chain reaction has ended and always alert the fire department.

Blanket should only be removed by emergency services

The fire blanket is intended to prevent the flames from spreading to the surrounding area. Always leave the fire blanket on the vehicle until the emergency services arrive. The blanket should only be removed by the emergency services.

Safe to use thanks to classified fabric in accordance with the European fire protection test and additional safety thanks to an electrostatic certificate

The material of the fire blanket has excellent chemical resistance. In addition, a European fire protection test was carried out on the fabric in accordance with DIN EN 13501-1 with the result "Class A1, non-combustible". There is also an electrostatic certificate in accordance with DIN 54345-1. The fire protection ceiling is also certified in accordance with the new DIN SPEC 91489, which includes 34 tests for thermal and chemical resistance as well as mechanical stability.

At EU level, there is a standard DIN EN 1869:201910 for the term extinguishing blanket / fire blanket, but this refers to the standard fire test object "deep-frying equipment with a filling quantity of max. 3 liters of cooking oil/fat", so that an extinguishing blanket / fire blanket according to the above standard is intended for extinguishing cooking oil and cooking fat fires.
