Extinguishing fires involving lithium-ion batteries remains a major challenge. To contain fires involving smaller batteries, BAVARIA developed this gel extinguisher, the Magnum Water Glue. The GlueX extinguishing gel is mainly used in recycling plants and the plastics processing industry.
The extinguisher is available in three different versions. This is the smallest version with six litres of extinguishing agent. This allows a spray time of approx. 26 seconds with a spray range of 6 metres. The bottle has external dimensions of 280x165x575 mm. If you are interested

Properties of the extinguisher

The extinguishing agent can be used in a temperature range from +5°C to +60°C. The extinguishing jet can be interrupted and used intermittently via the extinguishing gun at any time.

The polyester coating of the container and the polymer inner coating provide excellent corrosion protection.

Can be used on electrical systems up to 1000 volts with a minimum distance of one metre.

As all variants of the Magnum series from BAVARIA are identical in design, the number of spare parts that need to be kept in stock is significantly reduced.

The uniform operating concept gives the user a considerable time advantage in the event of a fire.

Impact fitting as a safe and simple release device.

Valve made of high-quality, glass fibre-reinforced plastic with aluminium union nut, black coated.

High-quality EPDM hose with fabric insert and rotatable, easy-to-use extinguishing gun and foam nozzle.

Extinguishing effect of Water Glue

The extinguishing agent can be used for Class A fires and, in particular, for lithium-ion batteries. In addition to the cooling effect of the gel, it also has a strong preventive application. The gel adheres very well even to smooth, vertical surfaces. Its high heat capacity enables good heat extraction and oxygen exclusion. The GlueX layers can also protect the affected objects from heat radiation and ignition. Please note that this extinguishing agent is not recommended for containing fires involving larger battery packs (electric vehicles, PV storage systems, forklift trucks, etc.).

Lithium-ion batteries are not currently assigned to any specific fire class. These batteries consist of various solid and liquid components, which makes a specific classification difficult. Focusing solely on, for example, fire class D is not effective.

There are currently no specific, standardized testing procedures that conclusively prove suitability. All systems sold to us have been tested for suitability through the manufacturers’ internal tests and/or, in some cases, verified by external laboratories. The systems from Gloria and Neuruppin consist of water with an extinguishing agent additive (Imprex-C or F500-EA) that alters the properties of the water. These additives change the surface tension of the water, improve penetration depth, and enhance the water’s cooling effect. LithiumX from Bavaria is an aqueous dispersion in which natural silicon crystals are suspended in an aqueous solution. When sprayed onto the burning material, the water evaporates and the microscopic silicon flakes swell and fuse into an impermeable barrier layer. This isolates the fire, and the thermal radiation above the barrier layer immediately drops below 100°C. These systems are also marketed under the alternative designation “AVD.” PyroBubbles: PyroBubbles are small glass beads. In the event of a fire, the granules melt and form a closed, thermally insulating layer around the fire source, thereby depriving it of oxygen. Combustible reaction gases are reduced thanks to the pores in the beads. The high specific heat capacity absorbs thermal energy, and the temperature is lowered due to the cooling effect. Furthermore, combustible material is shielded by the low thermal conductivity. Please note: Active fire suppression with PyroBubbles requires a specific fire protection design.
