Product information „Bauer Transport and Storage Container TYPE SAP 450-1 for lithium-ion batteries / lithium-ion rechargeable batteries“
The SAP 450-1 transport and storage container is ideal as a collection container for lithium-ion batteries in virtually all conditions.
Dimensions and capacity of the transport and storage container
The container has external dimensions of approx. 1200 x 1000 x 835 mm (LxWxH). Its capacity is approx. 450 l. The transport container’s tare weight is approx. 155 kg. The maximum permissible gross weight is 825 kg. The container is dual-coded as both 11A and 4A packaging. The sturdy base frame allows for access from two sides by industrial trucks. The container is stackable up to three high. The box is a sturdy construction made from 2 mm sheet steel. The lid and base frame are 2.5 mm thick.
Use and assembly of the SAP 450-1 transport and storage container
Before each use, the integrity of the container and all its components must be checked. Only trained and instructed personnel may be authorised to set up, store, move and transport the container. The transport and storage container must be filled layer by layer with filling material and batteries until the maximum gross weight is reached. We offer two types of filling material: either vermiculite filling pads or PyroBubbles filling pads. If you wish to use your own filling material that you already have in stock at your premises, the container can also be ordered without filling material. The container can also be moved using the 4 lifting eyes on the top frame. The lid support can be locked at an angle of 70°. The full lid locking range is 270°. One of the 4 lid supports is lockable.
Storage instructions
The storage of dangerous goods in damaged or leaking transport containers is prohibited. The container must be placed on a level surface, in a well-ventilated area and under a canopy. Care must be taken to ensure that the transport container is protected from the weather, direct sunlight and radiant heat.
Transport instructions
All statutory regulations, as well as any labelling and markings, must be observed during transport. All handling and transport of the container must be carried out using suitable and safe equipment. Before transport, ensure that the lid is securely locked to the base frame. Observe the labelling and marking instructions specified in the ADR.
Repair and disposal
Damaged transport containers must not be reused. Repairs may only be carried out by specialists authorised by the manufacturer, or by the manufacturer itself. Contaminated components must be disposed of properly in accordance with the nature of their contamination.
Certification and Guidelines
Lithium batteries fall under dangerous goods Class 9. Consequently, numerous requirements and guidelines must be adhered to when transporting lithium batteries.
Certified for Packaging Groups I, II and III
The SAP 450 container meets the requirements of Packing Groups I, II and III, which means that substances with high, medium and low hazard potential may be transported in it. To achieve this classification, the container must pass drop tests from a height of 1.8 m. All packaging bearing the code ‘X’ may be used for Packaging Groups I, II and III. The ‘X’ coding is also part of a dual-coding system.
Suitable for transport in accordance with SV 376 of the ADR and Packaging Instruction P 908
All lithium-ion cells or batteries and lithium-metal cells or batteries that have been damaged and no longer comply with the applicable regulations as set out in their respective manuals must comply with the provisions of Special Provision 376 (SV 376). This applies, for example, to cells that have leaked or degassed, have sustained external or mechanical damage, have been identified as defective for safety reasons, or could no longer be diagnosed prior to transport. These cells must then be packed in accordance with Packing Instruction LP 904. According to this guideline, it must be ensured, for example, that any electrolyte released is absorbed, and a non-electrically conductive thermal insulator must ensure that the surroundings are protected against dangerous heat build-up.
Transport of prototypes in accordance with SV 310 of the ADR and Packing Instruction P 910
Special Provision SV 310 governs the transport of prototypes of lithium-ion cells or batteries and lithium-metal cells or batteries. Packing Instruction P 910 then sets out, amongst other things, requirements for the packaging and the mass of the dangerous goods.
Also ideal for the transport of new lithium-ion batteries in accordance with P 903 and as a storage and quarantine box
As no filler material is required, the container is also ideally suited as a quarantine container for defective batteries, to isolate any potential fire from the outset. The transport container is also suitable for the regular dispatch of new or undamaged lithium-ion batteries in accordance with Packing Instruction P 903.
Please note: ‘SAP’ type containers must not be used for ‘critically’ defective lithium-ion batteries as defined in SV 376 and P 911.
Future-oriented
Lithium-ion batteries will become indispensable in all industrial applications in the coming years. However, if used improperly, these batteries can pose a significant risk during manufacture, storage and transport. By purchasing these boxes, you protect yourself against major financial losses right from the start.
