Product information „Bauer Transport and Storage Container TYPE SAP 800-1 for lithium-ion batteries / rechargeable lithium-ion batteries“

The SAP 800-1 transport and storage container is ideal as a collection container for lithium-ion batteries in virtually any condition.

Dimensions and capacity of the transport and storage container

The container has external dimensions of approx. 1200 x 1000 x 1235 mm (LxWxH). The internal dimensions of the box are 1038 x 838 x 927 mm (LxWxH), which corresponds to a capacity of approximately 800 l. The tare weight of the transport container is approximately 175 kg. The maximum permissible gross weight is 1,415 kg. The container is dual-coded as 11A and 4A packaging. The sturdy base frame allows for access from two sides by industrial trucks. The container is stackable to three levels. The box is a sturdy construction made from 2 mm sheet steel. The lid is 2.5 mm thick.

Use and assembly of the SAP 800-1 transport and storage container

Before each use, the integrity of the container and all its components must be checked. Only trained and instructed personnel may be authorised to set up, store, move or transport the container. The transport and storage container must be filled layer by layer with filler material and batteries until the maximum gross mass is reached. We offer two types of filling material: either vermiculite filling cushions or PyroBubbles filling cushions. If you wish to use your own filling material, which you already have in stock at your premises, the container can also be ordered without any filling material. The container can also be moved using the four lifting eyes on the top frame. The lid support can be locked at an angle of 70°. The full lid locking range is 270°. One of the four lid supports is lockable.

Storage instructions

The storage of dangerous goods in defective or leaking transport containers is prohibited. The container must be placed on a level surface, in a well-ventilated area and under a canopy. Care must be taken to ensure that the transport container is protected from the weather, direct sunlight and radiant heat.

Transport instructions

All statutory regulations, as well as any labelling and markings, must be observed during transport. All handling and transport of the container must be carried out using suitable and safe equipment. Before transport, ensure that the lid is securely locked to the base frame. Observe the instructions regarding labelling and marking as specified in the ADR.

Repair and disposal

Damaged transport containers must not be reused. Repairs may only be carried out by specialists authorised by the manufacturer, or by the manufacturer itself. Contaminated components must be disposed of properly in accordance with the nature of their contamination.

Certification and guidelines

Lithium batteries fall under dangerous goods class 9. Consequently, numerous regulations and guidelines must be observed when transporting lithium batteries.

Certified for Packing Groups I, II and III

The SAP 600 container meets the requirements for Packing Groups I, II and III, which means that substances with high, medium and low hazard potential may be transported in it. To achieve this classification, the container must pass drop tests from a height of 1.8 m. All packaging with the code ‘X’ may be used for packaging groups I (II and III). The ‘X’ coding is also part of a dual-coding system.

Suitable for transport in accordance with SV 376 of the ADR and Packaging Instruction P 908

All lithium-ion cells or batteries and lithium-metal cells or batteries that have been damaged and no longer comply with the applicable regulations as set out in their respective manuals must comply with the provisions of Special Provision 376 (SV 376). This applies, for example, to cells that have leaked or degassed, have suffered external or mechanical damage, have been identified as defective for safety reasons, or could no longer be diagnosed prior to transport. These cells must then be packed in accordance with Packing Instruction P 908. According to this guideline, it must be ensured, for example, that any electrolyte released is absorbed, and a non-electrically conductive thermal insulator must ensure that the surrounding area is protected against dangerous heat build-up.

For storage, transport and recycling in accordance with Special Provision 377 of the ADR and Packing Instruction P 909

Special Provision SV 377 governs the transport of lithium-ion cells or batteries and lithium-metal cells or batteries being transported for disposal or recycling. As with Packaging Instruction P 908, the guidelines for Packaging Group II must be followed in P 909. In addition, restrictions apply to the nominal energy and weight of lithium-ion cells and batteries.

Transport of prototypes in accordance with Special Provision 310 of the ADR and Packing Instruction P 910

Special Provision SV 310 governs the carriage of prototypes of lithium-ion cells or batteries and lithium-metal cells or batteries. Packing Instruction P 910 then sets out, amongst other things, requirements for packaging and the mass of dangerous goods.

Also ideal for the transport of as-new lithium-ion batteries in accordance with P 903 and as a storage and quarantine box

As no filler is required, the container is also ideally suited as a quarantine container for defective batteries, to isolate any potential fire from the outset. The transport container is also suitable for the regular dispatch of new or undamaged lithium-ion batteries in accordance with Packaging Instruction P 903.

Please note: ‘SAP’ type containers must not be used for ‘critically’ defective lithium-ion batteries as defined in SV 376 and P911.

Future-oriented

Lithium-ion batteries will become indispensable in all industrial applications in the coming years. However, if used improperly, these batteries can pose a significant potential hazard during manufacture, storage and transport. By purchasing these boxes, you protect yourself against major financial losses right from the start.
