Product information „CEMO Charging Cabinet Premium 8/20 LockEX 2.0“
Often in restricted storage rooms there is the problem that there is no space for large security cabinets for storing lithium-ion batteries or that they are too inflexible when the space conditions in the warehouse change at short notice. CEMO offers the optimal solution here, which can be expanded at any time and can also be adapted to the needs of your operation.
Please feel free to contact us if you need a bespoke offer.
Size, construction and function of the battery charging cabinet
The CEMO battery charging cabinet is, in this version, a storage cabinet as well as a charging cabinet including a smoke detector. The external dimensions are 890 x 660 x 2130 mm (W x D x H), the internal dimensions 730 x 530 x 1760 mm, the weight 267 kg.

Differences from the Basic charging cabinet
Unlike the CEMO battery charging cabinet Basic 8/20, this variant uses mains-powered smoke detection. Additionally, the power-off switch is included for smoke detection, a potential-free output for connection to a fire alarm system on the cabinet exterior, as well as a 12V connection option for accessories combined alarm devices (visual and audible).
Equipment
In the Premium version the charging cabinet includes an alert, a smoke detector with a potential-free output for an alarm signal and a technical ventilation. In case of overheating and/or smoke development, the electrical circuit is interrupted. When the door is opened, the power supply is additionally interrupted via a door contact switch. During charging, the doors should therefore always remain closed.
These are charging variants with 4 horizontally arranged 9-way sockets for power supply. Either with a 230 V version with single-phase power supply (3500 W / 16 A) or the 400 V version with three-phase power supply (2x 3500 W / 2x 16 A).
The cabinet enables safe storage of lithium-ion batteries up to 12 kWh
In the Premium version the charging cabinet includes an audible warning tone, heat dissipation during charging using the built-in fan and a charging stop in case of fault or emergency. In case of overheating the circuit is interrupted by a power-off switch. When the door is opened, the power supply is also interrupted via a door contact switch. During charging the doors should thus always remain closed. Additionally, the Premium variant features an improved connection option for combined alarm devices (12V) and connection to a fire alarm system.
Equipped with the CEMO lockEX latch
CEMO lockEX is an innovative mechanism in the door locking that reliably relieves the pressure of igniting gases inside the cabinet to effectively prevent explosions.
The design is based on an intelligent spring mechanism that, in the event of an explosion of a damaged Li battery, gently opens the cabinet doors to relieve the resulting pressure, and then immediately closes them securely again.
Of particular importance is the protection granted by the patent in the German Patent and Trade Mark Office. In professional circles it has long been known that lithium batteries can not only cause flames and explosive combustion of individual cells, but can also be involved in a gas explosion due to vented cell gases. This represents the worst-case scenario of a battery fire, as it can negate the entire protective effect and thus be the decisive criterion in the hazard assessment.
CEMO lockEX combines fire protection and explosion protection in one product and offers a reliable solution for handling potentially dangerous battery fires.
The course of a battery fire is effectively interrupted by the lockEX technology. Even before a thermal runaway begins, an explosion can occur. If the cabinet housing yields or the doors open, the protective effect can be lost immediately, and the burning cells and battery packs can be hurled uncontrolled into the surroundings at the installation site.
The lockEX mechanism from CEMO ensures that the explosion pressure formed inside the cabinet is effectively managed. This advanced NO-BANG technology ensures uninterrupted preservation of the protective effect, even in the worst-case scenario of a battery fire.
Well equipped for emergencies
Especially critically damaged lithium-ion cells can pose a serious danger to people and facility equipment in a fire (thermal runaway). Dust arising from these fires can settle on circuit boards of production and operation devices, causing lasting damage. This storage cabinet has an MPA-tested fire resistance of 60 minutes from inside to outside in accordance with DIN EN 1363-1. A real battery fire test was conducted with an independent university. The intake and exhaust openings automatically close in a fire. The doors should, however, always remain closed during storage.
Ruggedly built
The storage cabinet is built from robust, fire-resistant components. Special fire-protective seals prevent flame escape and it features a cold-smoke-tight closure system for the openings. The doors are double-leaf and lockable with sturdy latching and mounting. The door paint is orange, similar to RAL 2004, and the body is gray, similar to RAL 7035.
Portably usable
With the stack feet, the cabinets can be stored optimally up to a height of 2 units. The stacking feet also make them drivable on wheels. Optionally, the cabinet can be equipped with a fireproof and tested cable gland to, for example, connect to the in-house fire alarm system.
Guidelines
There are currently no legal regulations for the storage of lithium batteries / lithium-ion cells. Only the VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH publishes general safety rules for damage prevention in VdS 3103:2019-06 (03). It is advisable to clarify your requirements in advance with your property insurer.
The manufacturer
The CEMO GmbH from Weinstadt stands for safe storage with imagination and action for more than 60 years. The company is a pioneer in the field of modern transport and storage container technology and is one of the market leaders in this area.
Forward-looking
Lithium-ion batteries will be indispensable in all industrial applications in the coming years. Improper use, however, can pose a significant hazard during production, storage and transport. By acquiring this storage cabinet, you safeguard yourself against larger financial damages from the outset.

FAQ
Standard security cabinets are designed for indoor use, so they cannot be used outdoors.
The fire protection panels installed in the cabinets contain gypsum, which contains a lot of water, which expands when frozen. This deforms the panels. It can no longer be guaranteed that such a cabinet is still sealed or can withstand an explosion.
If you already have a suitable room that is structurally fire-resistant, then you do not necessarily need a safety cabinet to contain the fire.
However, please do not forget that the damage caused by a battery fire involves immense and also toxic contamination, the disposal of which can quickly lead to high costs.
In addition, you may not be able to continue working as usual until the damage has been finally repaired - depending on the location of the damage.
