- Lithium-ion batteries are both a blessing and a curse. High energy density in the smallest storage cell represents a quantum leap and, despite state-of-the-art technology, harbours risks. Fires involving these batteries are difficult to control due to the thermal runaway that occurs. The actual firefighting of smaller lithium-ion batteries (up to 600 Wh) by trained personnel requires a fire extinguisher with a particularly high cooling effect, preferably with a pre-assembled extinguishing lance to maintain a safe distance.
Professional associations such as the DGUV and the bvfa recommend water as an extinguishing agent, with extinguishing agent additives if necessary.
Based on these principles, GLORIA developed the GLORIA WKL9 PRO high-performance fire extinguisher to contain fires involving lithium-ion batteries with cylindrical (18650) cells up to 1285 Wh and pouch cells up to 700 Wh.

Compact battery fire extinguisher for businesses and private individuals
The WKL9 PRO from GLORIA has a filling capacity of 9 litres of extinguishing agent to combat burning batteries. This enables a spray duration of approx. 80 seconds with a spray range of 4 m. The GLORIA WKL 9PRO fire extinguisher has external dimensions of 640x430x205 mm (HxWxD) and weighs 15.6 kg.
For fighting fires involving lithium batteries and other batteries
The compact dimensions and light weight of the WKL9 PRO make it very flexible and versatile. Whether for extinguishing a burning e-bike battery, a fire caused by a laptop battery, e-scooter, cordless screwdriver or other battery fires – the extinguisher presented here is quickly to hand and can prevent greater damage.
Can also be used to extinguish electrical equipment
In addition to extinguishing all types of battery fires, the GLORIA WKL9 PRO fire extinguisher can also be used in other areas. For example, it can also be used to fight fires in electrical equipment up to 1000 volts, whereby a distance of at least one metre must be maintained when fighting the fire. For higher voltages, DIN VDE 0132 must be observed.
Features and equipment of the WKL9 PRO fire extinguisher
The WKL9 PRO fire extinguisher has been specially developed for fighting battery fires and burning lithium batteries. Both the GLORIA IMPREX C additive used and the other properties of the GLORIA fire extinguisher are therefore perfectly suited to the hazardous situations that can arise from rechargeable and other batteries.
Wide temperature range for fighting fires involving batteries and rechargeable batteries
The GLORIA WKL9 PRO fire extinguisher can be used in a wide temperature range. It can be used to fight battery fires from +5°C to +60°C.
Handling the water fire extinguisher
In order to make the GLORIA fire extinguisher as easy as possible for both commercial and private users to use, the manufacturer has implemented various concepts and features that enable efficient firefighting of battery fires in everyday life. The bottle has a proven push-button fitting with an ergonomically shaped, extremely stable carrying handle. The valve body is made of high-strength, glass fibre-reinforced special plastic with a pre-assembled disposable cartridge (no floating cartridge!), separate from the water.
Laser-welded, durable container with easy handling, including wall bracket
The portable water fire extinguisher comes with a sturdy wall bracket as standard. This means it is always within reach and can be positioned flexibly. The container is laser-welded and has a durable inner coating. The metal union nut is black anodised. The internal CO2 propellant cylinder has a corrosion-resistant polyethylene coating (technical data marked with durable laser printing). Perfect handling thanks to the rotatable and extra-long LABS-free quality hose line with synthetic rubber fabric insert. The extinguishing gun can be rotated and parked with a pre-assembled extinguishing lance with a 5-hole spray nozzle.
Extinguishing effect of the GLORIA WKL9 PRO – the water extinguisher for containing battery fires
The GLORIA WKL 9PRO extinguisher can be used for class A fires and, in particular, for burning lithium-ion batteries. The blue colour code on the bottle indicates that the extinguishing agent is water. 0.18 litres of GLORIA IMPREX C extinguishing concentrate are added to the 8.82 litres of extinguishing water. The extinguishing performance according to DIN EN 3 is specified as 27A (= 9 LE). The suitability for lithium-ion batteries was tested by the Dutch institute KIWA.
Environmentally friendly additive GLORIA IMPREX C
The addition of extinguishing-promoting substances to the extinguishing water was deliberately avoided. Apart from the fluorine-free additive GLORIA IMPREX C, there are no other additives. This means that the extinguishing agent does not contain any environmentally harmful PFOS or PFOA!
Suitable for use with lithium-ion batteries and in other areas
Thanks to its fire class A rating, the water extinguisher is suitable for
use
with lithium-ion batteries as well as for the most common fires in the home. The extinguisher is also highly recommended for commercial use, for example in storage areas of computer/electrical stores, tool departments in retail companies or in file storage/archives/paper and packaging warehouses.
