Product information „SEDA HV battery container standard, with extinguishing function“

Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly common nowadays, which also increases the risk of them malfunctioning or being damaged in an accident.

In such cases, a reliable and safe solution is needed to prevent further damage. The SEDA HV Battery Container Standard is the perfect tool for this purpose. Thanks to its four separate compartments, lithium-ion batteries/rechargeable batteries can be stored in this container. The closed container ensures a controlled reaction of the energy storage device.

SEDA HV Battery Container Standard – Immediate hazard prevention for conspicuous lithium batteries

The SEDA HV Battery Container ensures safe storage for both critical and non-critical energy storage devices. Storage takes place in monitored compartments that can be flooded in the event of a thermal reaction.

Dimensions and weights

The container is 6,400 mm long, 2,450 mm wide and 2,600 mm high. The interior offers 4 containers including frames for drawers. The individual compartments measure 2,660 x 2,000 x 491 mm. It weighs 5,450 kg. The maximum payload is 1000 kg.

The removability of the storage containers ensures easy loading

.

The individual storage compartments can be removed with a forklift for easy loading. The battery is loaded into the compartment from above. A crane or forklift is recommended for loading. The battery should be placed on square timbers in the container.

Temperature monitoring and control

It is possible for the user to control the temperature inside the container themselves. The temperature and ventilation can be preset according to the user's needs. In the version offered here, the container is cross-ventilated and maintains the ambient temperature inside the container. If the container needs to maintain a specific temperature, this can be done optionally via an air conditioning unit. Please feel free to contact us at sales@lion-care.com or +49 7151 256 4811.

Monitoring and control of individual compartments

The container also has 4 temperature sensors per compartment. These can be attached to the battery. If they measure a temperature above 68°C, the container is immediately flooded with water or another extinguishing agent. In addition, the ambient temperature in the containers is measured and smoke gas, hydrogen (H2) and carbon monoxide (CO) are evaluated. Current values are shown on the front display.

Flooding at temperatures above 68°C

If the temperature exceeds 68°C, the integrated flooders are activated by the trigger monitoring system and the extinguishing or cooling agent is introduced. The fill level is monitored by sensors. A water connection with a Storz coupling size B and a maximum water pressure of 4 bar is required at the installation site. If frost or temperatures close to freezing point occur at the location, a dry extinguishing line must be provided.

General guidelines for battery storage

There are currently no legal regulations for the storage of lithium batteries/lithium-ion batteries. Only VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH provides general safety rules for damage prevention in its publication VdS 3103 : 2019-06 (03). It is advisable to clarify your requirements with your property insurer in advance.

SEDA Umwelttechnik GmbH – Solution for car recycling

SEDA Umwelttechnik GmbH is a company that specialises in the development, manufacture and sale of equipment and systems for draining end-of-life vehicles. The company's vision is to protect the environment from hazardous liquids and pollutants.

Future-oriented

Lithium-ion batteries will become indispensable in all industrial applications in the coming years

.

However, if used improperly, the batteries can pose a potential hazard that should not be underestimated during manufacture, storage and transport. By purchasing these containers, you are protecting yourself against major financial losses right from the start. International customers from the automotive and energy supply sectors, among others, rely on this proven technology.

FAQ

That depends on various factors that need to be considered:

  • size of the battery(ies)
  • condition (e.g. non-critical, defective, critically defective or prototype)
  • power

Transport boxes are available in many different sizes and specifications. The packaging group for which the box is suitable is indicated for each product.

Even if the batteries are not critical, remember to protect them from shocks and to order appropriate filling material if it is not already included in the box.

Yes. Should a battery reach a critical state and cause a fire, separating the batteries will prevent the fire from spreading and multiplying.

Generally, the insulation and protection material should line all sides of the container. The batteries are stored between individual layers.

We also have containers in our program that already have the protective material integrated into the outer wall. No further protective layer is necessary here.

The technical principles for storage and transportation solutions are very similar. The transport boxes are also subjected to extensive tests in accordance with ADR (drop test, fire test, etc.) to confirm compliance with the ADR regulations. The packaging regulations are extensive and regulated by law.
There are currently no comparable regulations for storage. Nevertheless, manufacturers of storage boxes regularly carry out appropriate tests.
The right container depends on the type and size of the battery to be shipped or stored.

The transportation of batteries is subject to ADR regulations.

The number, size and weight, energy density and condition of the batteries are crucial parameters for finding a suitable transport container for lithium-ion batteries. The selection process is complex and should be carried out by appropriately trained personnel. We have a trained hazardous materials officer on our team. Please feel free to contact us.

Plastic containers are cheaper but not as durable as metal containers. They are suitable, for example, for non-critical batteries, defective batteries, prototypes and end-of-life batteries. They can be used for both storage and transportation.

Metal containers are required, for example, when dealing with critically defective batteries.

The exact packaging instructions for these cases can be found in the ADR or by consulting a certified hazardous materials specialist.

To date, there are no legal requirements for the storage of lithium-ion batteries, which does not mean that they should be stored without suitable protective measures.

It is best to check with your insurer to find out which measures they recognize as suitable in the event of a claim.

For example, a suitable box could already be recognized as spatial separation.
