Overview

The ecell-guard BASIC system is an automated fire protection solution designed to contain fires involving electric vehicles with lithium-ion batteries. Specifically developed for multi-storey car parks, underground car parks, workshops and charging areas, the system helps protect people, buildings and surrounding vehicles in the event of a battery fire – fully automatically and without manual intervention.

As soon as the integrated sensor system detects the onset of a lithium-ion battery fire, a high-temperature-resistant fire containment blanket is automatically deployed over the vehicle within seconds. The blanket reduces the supply of oxygen, contains extreme heat and allows the controlled release of gases generated during the fire. This significantly reduces the spread of the fire and helps limit structural damage.

The BASIC system can be installed as a single or multi-system solution, providing a future-oriented approach to the increasing fire protection requirements associated with e-mobility.

Scope of Delivery

The ecell-guard BASIC system is supplied ready for installation and includes the following components:

  • 1 × system box (ready for installation, including accessories)

  • 1 × fire containment blanket (pre-assembled)

  • 2 × smoke and heat detectors

  • 1 × acoustic and visual signalling device

  • 1 × BX-O2I4 input/output module

  • 1 × wheel stop

  • 1 × installation kit

Note:
A fire alarm system is not included with the ecell-guard BASIC system. The fire alarm system must be added separately and contains all of the system’s electronic control components. One fire alarm system can be used to operate several systems in parallel. If multiple systems are installed, an additional multi-position extension for the fire alarm system is required.

Applications & Operating Conditions

The ecell-guard BASIC system is suitable for:

Maximum vehicle dimensions per system:

  • Width: 2.20 m (including exterior mirrors)

The extended vehicle dimensions (silhouette dimensions) must not exceed 7.50 m in length and 5.50 m in width.

A fire alarm system is required for operation and is not included in the scope of delivery. The ecell-guard fire alarm system can control up to 25 BASIC systems.

  • Reduction of flame formation

  • Controlled release of pyrolysis gases

  • Minimisation of smoke and pressure build-up

Fire Containment & Protection System

The specially developed high-temperature fire containment blanket is the central element of the system:

  • Specialist fabric with mineral coating

  • Continuous heat resistance up to 1,200 °C

  • Short-term temperature resistance up to 1,600 °C

  • Certified in accordance with DIN SPEC 91489

Information on Use & Operation

  • Operation only in conjunction with the ecell-guard fire alarm system

  • Installation by qualified specialist personnel recommended

  • Annual visual inspection sufficient

  • Multi-system installations can be individually planned according to the building structure
