Product information „CEMO Basic 8/20 LockEX 2.0 charging cabinet“
In many cases, limited storage space poses a problem, as there is no room for large safety cabinets for storing lithium-ion batteries, or these are too inflexible if the space available in the warehouse changes at short notice. CEMO offers the ideal solution here, which can be expanded at any time and adapted to the needs of your business.

Size, structure and function of the battery charging cabinet
This version of the CEMO battery charging cabinet is a storage and charging cabinet including a smoke detector. The external dimensions are 800 x 660 x 2130 mm (W x D x H), the internal dimensions are 730 x 530 x 1760 mm, and the weight is 267 kg. The maximum energy density that should be stored in the cabinet is 12 kWh according to the VDMA test. Each of the levels should not be loaded with more than 1.5 kWh.

Features
These are charging variants with four 9-way power strips for power supply. Either with a 230 V version with 1-phase power supply (3500 W / 16 A) or the 400 V version with 3-phase power supply (2x 3500 W / 2x 16 A).
In the basic version, the charging cabinet has an acoustic warning tone, heat dissipation during charging with the aid of the built-in fan and a charging stop in the event of a malfunction or accident. If heat builds up, the circuit is interrupted by means of a de-energised switch. When the door is opened, the power supply is also interrupted by means of a door contact switch. The doors should therefore always be closed during the charging process.
Equipped with the CEMO lockEX 2.0 lock
With lockEX 2.0, CEMO presents the latest evolutionary stage in hazardous material storage. Developed to meet the highest safety requirements, the system offers effective protection without any time limit – far beyond the standard 90 minutes available on the market.
The design is based on an intelligent spring mechanism which, in the event of an explosion of a damaged Li battery, gently opens the cabinet doors to release the pressure and then immediately closes them again securely.
The protection afforded by the property right registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office is particularly important here. It has long been known among experts that lithium batteries can not only cause flames and explosive combustion of individual cells, but that a gas explosion due to escaping cell vapours is also to be expected. This represents the worst-case scenario for a battery fire, as it can negate the entire protective effect and thus be the most decisive criterion in the risk assessment.
CEMO lockEX combines fire protection and explosion protection in one product and offers a reliable solution for dealing with potentially dangerous battery fires.
The lockEX technology effectively interrupts the course of a battery fire. An explosion can occur even before thermal runaway begins. If the cabinet housing gives way or the doors open, the protective effect can be lost immediately and the burning cells and battery packs are thrown unhindered into the surrounding area at the installation site.
CEMO's lockEX mechanism ensures that the explosion pressure that builds up inside the cabinet is effectively managed. This advanced NO-BANG technology guarantees that the protective effect is maintained without restriction, even in the worst-case scenario of a battery fire.
Tested according to VDMA up to 12 kW/h
The battery cabinet has been tested according to VDMA for lithium-ion batteries. The maximum permissible energy density for this system is 12.0 kWh. Each storage level may be loaded with up to 1.5 kWh.
VDMA 24994 is a testing standard specifically for fire-resistant storage cabinets designed to safely store lithium-ion batteries. The test checks whether the cabinet can withstand a so-called thermal runaway, i.e. dangerous overheating and self-ignition of the battery. It is important that the cabinet does not emit any flames or toxic gases to the outside and that the door does not open even under pressure. The standard helps companies to significantly increase safety when storing lithium-ion batteries and is considered an important benchmark that is increasingly recognised by manufacturers and insurers.
Well equipped in case of an accident
Critically damaged lithium-ion cells in particular can pose a serious danger to people and operating equipment in the event of a fire ("thermal runaway"). Dust produced by these fires can settle on the circuit boards of production and operating equipment and cause permanent damage. This storage cabinet has MPA-tested fire resistance of over 60 minutes from the inside to the outside in accordance with DIN EN 1363-1. A real battery fire test was carried out with an independent university. The air intake and exhaust openings close automatically in the event of a fire. However, the doors should always remain closed during storage.
Robust construction
The storage cabinet is constructed from robust, fire-resistant components. Special fire protection seals prevent flames from escaping and it has a cold smoke-tight closure system for the openings. The doors are double-winged and lockable with a sturdy lock and suspension. The doors are painted orange, similar to RAL 2004, and the body is grey, similar to RAL 7035.
Portable
The stacking feet allow the cabinets to be stored optimally up to a height of 2 units. The stacking feet also make them wheelable. Optionally, the cabinet can also be equipped with a fireproof and tested cable entry, for example to connect to the in-house fire alarm system.
Guidelines
There are currently no legal regulations for the storage of lithium batteries/lithium-ion batteries. Only VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH (VdS Risk Prevention Ltd.) provides general safety rules for damage prevention in its publication VdS 3103 : 2019-06 (03). It is advisable to clarify your requirements with your property insurer in advance.
The manufacturer
With imagination and drive, CEMO GmbH from Weinstadt has been synonymous with safe storage for more than 60 years. The company is a pioneer in the field of modern transport and storage container technology and is one of the market leaders in this area.
Future-oriented
Lithium-ion batteries will become indispensable in all industrial applications in the coming years. However, if used improperly, the batteries can pose a potential hazard that should not be underestimated during manufacture, storage and transport. By purchasing this storage cabinet, you are protecting yourself against major financial losses right from the start.

FAQ
Standard security cabinets are designed for indoor use, so they cannot be used outdoors.
The fire protection panels installed in the cabinets contain gypsum, which contains a lot of water, which expands when frozen. This deforms the panels. It can no longer be guaranteed that such a cabinet is still sealed or can withstand an explosion.
If you already have a suitable room that is structurally fire-resistant, then you do not necessarily need a safety cabinet to contain the fire.
However, please do not forget that the damage caused by a battery fire involves immense and also toxic contamination, the disposal of which can quickly lead to high costs.
In addition, you may not be able to continue working as usual until the damage has been finally repaired - depending on the location of the damage.
