Product information „Düperthal BATTERY standard line XL Lagerschrank“
This safety cabinet is an innovative storage system for lithium-ion accumulators / lithium-ion batteries. Düperthal has developed this innovative and DIN-certified cabinet system to prevent damage caused by faulty battery cells. Smoke gases in particular can cause permanent damage to surrounding electronic equipment. Düperthal’s BATTERY line cabinets protect you from the outset against this and other damage that can arise, for example, from lithium-ion battery cells experiencing thermal runaway. It is precisely the tested fire resistance from the inside out that makes this system particularly suitable for use in industrial settings.
Alarm signalling for Düperthal battery safety cabinets
As an option, Düperthal systems can be fitted with a potential-free contact for alarm signalling. Visual and audible signals, as well as remote alarm modules, are also available. Please feel free to contact us if you require information on these systems: info@lion-care.com or +49 7151 256 4811.
Size, storage capacity and function of the battery safety cabinet
The standard range of the Düperthal BATTERY line is a storage system designed exclusively for lithium-ion batteries. If you are looking for a safety cabinet that also offers charging facilities, we would refer you to the station series of the Düperthal BATTERY line.
Storage capacity of the Düperthal BATTERY standard line XL safety cabinet
The XL model has external dimensions of 1 194 x 612 x 2 051 mm (width x depth x height). Please refer to the dimension sheet, which you can find in the downloads section, for the internal dimensions. The unladen weight is 530 kg, with a maximum internal cabinet volume of 0.95 m³. The cabinet can be accessed from underneath with a pallet truck for easier handling.
54 Ah per stored cell permitted
The maximum capacity of the individual lithium-ion cells that may be stored in the cabinet is 54 Ah. Please note that the 54 Ah does not refer to the entire battery, as each battery consists of several cells. This value covers the majority of batteries in use today. Each storage level has a load-bearing capacity of 75 kg. The spill tray at the base of the cabinet has a volume of 33 l. A video of the fire test carried out can be found in the ‘Videos’ tab.
Two storage areas per shelf level
Inside the Düperthal BATTERY standard line XL safety cabinet, the individual storage levels are divided into two separate storage areas. This makes it possible to physically separate the different batteries within the cabinet, thereby significantly increasing the level of safety once again.
Düperthal BATTERY standard line XL battery cabinet – safety of the highest standard
The safe storage of lithium-ion batteries was Düperthal’s top priority when developing this cabinet. The various safety mechanisms, which protect the environment in the event of a battery fire or even a battery explosion, are correspondingly comprehensive and sophisticated.
Fire resistance class F90 / Type 90 – 90 minutes’ protection in the event of a fire
If a lithium-ion battery catches fire, the surrounding environment must be reliably protected from the resulting hazards. Düperthal’s battery safety cabinets, such as the Düperthal BATTERY standard line XL safety cabinet presented here, have a fire resistance rating of F90 / Type 90, meaning they provide 90 minutes’ protection before the burning batteries cause damage to the surrounding area. Within these 90 minutes, the area can be evacuated, initial countermeasures taken using suitable battery fire extinguishers and extinguishing agents, and the fire brigade called, thereby ensuring optimum safety.
Double protection – for the environment and for the stored lithium-ion batteries
Unlike many other manufacturers of safety cabinets, Düperthal’s models undergo a dual fire resistance test. The F90 fire resistance rating applies both from the inside out and from the outside in. This means that not only is the environment protected if the batteries catch fire (protection from the inside out), but the lithium-ion batteries are also protected if a fire breaks out in the vicinity of the safety cabinet (protection from the outside in).
Intelligent locking mechanisms for the cabinet doors
The door remains open in any position; however, a cylinder lock with permanent locking can secure the hinged door. At a temperature of approximately 50°C inside the cabinet, the thermal activation of the automatic door-closing mechanism ensures that the door closes automatically. A backdraft barrier ensures that the door can no longer be opened. The fire brigade can open the doors using an emergency release mechanism on the top of the cabinet.
Exhaust vents close automatically from the outside in the event of a fire
The cabinet is fitted with an exhaust pipe with a nominal width of 110 mm and a 75 mm adapter. In the event of a fire outside the cabinet, the safety system closes the exhaust vents when the room temperature reaches approximately 70°C. Inspection hatches are incorporated above the false ceiling; these turn red when the exhaust air vents close. In the event of a fire inside the cabinet, the smoke gases are ‘forced’ into the cabinet and can be channelled to the outside via the exhaust air connection. Please note that the connection to the exhaust air system, as well as any materials required for this, are not included in the scope of supply or services. The connection to the exhaust air system must be provided by the customer.
Spill trays contain hazardous liquids
At the base of the battery cabinet there is a floor drip tray designed to collect any leaking liquids. Particularly when batteries are faulty, environmentally hazardous liquids may leak. For instance, lithium-ion batteries contain electrolytes that pose a risk to both people and the environment. The drip tray integrated into the cabinet effectively retains these liquids.
Levelling ensures perfect stability
The levelling feet of the Düperthal BATTERY standard line XL safety cabinet are adjustable, allowing for levelling. This ensures that the battery cabinet stands perfectly level on virtually any surface.
Customisation and additional features available
Düperthal offers a wide range of customisation options and extensive accessories for the Battery-Line safety cabinets, allowing them to be perfectly tailored to your company’s specific requirements.
Cabinet doors available in other colours
The door is made from sheet steel in the colour PANTONE 389 C (yellow-green). Other colours are available on request. This allows the cabinets to blend seamlessly into your business environment.
Temperature monitoring, load adaptors and much more
A Smartbox can be fitted as an option to monitor the status of the backdraft damper. A potential-free contact can also be used to establish a connection to the fire alarm control panel. Tested pipe penetrations are also available as an option. If loads are to be stored on the cabinet roof, load-bearing adaptors are available for installation, which ensure that fire resistance is not compromised.
Certification and maintenance of the battery safety cabinet
There are currently no legal regulations governing the storage of lithium batteries / lithium-ion batteries. However, by purchasing this storage system, you will be fully prepared for any future regulations. Lithium-ion batteries are classified as Class 9 dangerous goods.
Comprehensive testing in accordance with DIN/EN 14470-1
These battery cabinet systems from Düperthal are tested as safety cabinets in accordance with DIN. Type tests have been carried out by MPA/TÜV SÜD in accordance with DIN EN 14470-1 (Fire resistance of safety cabinets for flammable liquids), DIN EN 16121 and DIN EN 16122 (test methods for determining the strength, durability and stability of storage furniture for domestic and non-domestic use) and DIN 31000 Damage Prevention in accordance with VdS 3103:2015-06. The BATTERY line safety cabinets are also certified as Type 90 in accordance with EN 14470-1. This means that the fire resistance of the cabinets has been tested and classified for over 90 minutes on the basis of a type test.
Delivery and maintenance of the battery cabinets
Delivery of the cabinets is arranged to the point of use. Prior to dispatch, the customer’s delivery requirements are checked. In some circumstances, additional lifting equipment or similar may be required to install the cabinets. Please contact us before placing your order to clarify any special requirements.
Safety equipment must be inspected once a year by a competent person in accordance with TRBS 2103, in compliance with the BetrSichV, TRGS 526, TRGS 510, ArbStättV and the maintenance interval specified by the manufacturer.

FAQ
Standard security cabinets are designed for indoor use, so they cannot be used outdoors.
The fire protection panels installed in the cabinets contain gypsum, which contains a lot of water, which expands when frozen. This deforms the panels. It can no longer be guaranteed that such a cabinet is still sealed or can withstand an explosion.
If you already have a suitable room that is structurally fire-resistant, then you do not necessarily need a safety cabinet to contain the fire.
However, please do not forget that the damage caused by a battery fire involves immense and also toxic contamination, the disposal of which can quickly lead to high costs.
In addition, you may not be able to continue working as usual until the damage has been finally repaired - depending on the location of the damage.
