Product information „Düperthal BATTERY station line XL charging cabinet“
This safety cabinet is an innovative storage and charging system for lithium-ion batteries / lithium-ion cells. In order to prevent damage from venting battery cells, Düperthal has developed this innovative and DIN-certified cabinet system. In particular, exhaust gases can permanently damage surrounding electronic devices. The BATTERY line cabinets from Düperthal protect you from these and other damages from the outset, which can arise, for example, from ongoing (Thermal Runaway) lithium-ion cells. In particular, the tested fire resistance from inside to outside makes this system interesting for use in the industrial sector.
Alarm forwarding for Düperthal Battery Safety Cabinets
Optionally, Düperthal systems can be configured to forward an alarm via a potential-free contact. Visual and audible signals and fire alarm modules are also possible. Please refer to the available configurations or safety levels. If you need these systems, please contact us: info@lion-care.com or +49 7151 256 4811.
Size, carrying capacity and functions of the battery safety cabinet
The Station series of the Düperthal BATTERY line includes different safety cabinets for lithium-ion batteries / lithium-ion cells. In the storage levels there are also 230 V outlets to connect location devices. The power connection for the battery cabinet itself is via a polarity-protected 16 A CEE -L+N+PE 6h plug, so that in addition to pure storage of lithium-ion batteries, charging is also possible. The supply voltage is single-phase 230 V / 50 Hz, max. 3.68 kW. A 400 V / 50 Hz connection is also available to order. Please note the variants.

Storage capacity of the Düperthal BATTERY station line XL safety cabinet
The XL model has external dimensions of 2091 x 1194 x 612 mm (height x width x depth). Please note the measurement sheet in the Downloads tab for the internal dimensions. The empty weight is 550 kg with a maximum internal cabinet volume of 0.95 m³. The cabinet can be lowered under a pallet truck for easier handling.
54 Ah per stored cell approved
The maximum capacity of individual lithium-ion cells that may be stored in the cabinet is 54 Ah. Please note that the 54 Ah does not refer to the entire battery, since each battery consists of several cells. This value covers the majority of batteries used today. Each storage level has a load capacity of 75 kg. The bottom spill tray at the floor of the cabinet has a volume of 33 l. In the "Videos" tab you will find a completed fire test.
Two storage areas per storage level
Inside the Düperthal BATTERY Station Line XL safety cabinet, the individual storage levels are divided into two separate storage areas. This allows the different batteries within the cabinet to be spatially separated, further increasing the safety level.
Also suitable for charging
In the XL version, the battery safety cabinet has four storage levels. All storage levels and the respective storage areas are equipped with four outlets, so that the Düperthal BATTERY station line XL safety cabinet cannot only store Li-Ion batteries, but also charge them at the same time - ideal for integrating into the daily operations of many companies. Maximum safety is combined here with optimized workflows.
Düperthal BATTERY station line XL Battery cabinet - safety at the highest level
Safe storage of Li-ion batteries was the top priority in the development of this cabinet from Düperthal. Accordingly, the various safety mechanisms are extensive and mature, protecting the environment in the event of a battery fire or even battery explosions.
Fire resistance F90 / Type 90 - 90-minute protection in case of fire
If a lithium-ion battery catches fire, the environment must be reliably protected from the resulting hazards. Düperthal battery safety cabinets, such as the presented Düperthal BATTERY station line XL safety cabinet, offer fire resistance F90 / Type 90, providing 90 minutes of protection before the burning batteries pose a threat to the environment. Within this 90 minutes, the surroundings can be evacuated, with suitable battery fire extinguishers and extinguishing agents available and the fire department can be called to ensure optimal safety.
Double protection - for the environment and for the stored lithium-ion batteries
Unlike many other manufacturers of safety cabinets, Düperthal subjects its models to a double fire protection test. The fire resistance F90 applies both from inside to outside and from outside to inside. This means that both the environment is protected when the batteries catch fire (inside-out protection), but also the Li-ion batteries are protected when a fire occurs in the cabinet’s surroundings (outside-in protection).
Intelligent locking mechanisms for cabinet doors
The door remains open in any position; a cylinder lock with permanent locking can secure the leaf door. At a cabinet temperature of around 50 °C, the thermal triggering of the automatic door closing ensures that the door is closed by itself. A backdraft damper ensures that the door can no longer be opened. The fire brigade can open the doors using an emergency release at the top of the cabinet.
Exhaust openings automatically close from outside in case of fire
On the cabinet there is an exhaust duct with NW110 and adapter NW75. In a fire outside the cabinet, the exhaust openings are closed by safety technology at a room temperature of around 70 °C. Above the suspended ceiling there are inspection openings that turn red when the exhaust apertures close. In case of an internal fire, the smoke gases are “pressed” inside the cabinet and can be directed outside via the exhaust connection. Please note that the connection to the exhaust, as well as the required material, is not included in the delivery/ scope of supply. The exhaust connection must be provided by the customer.
Containment trays hold back dangerous liquids
At the bottom of the battery cabinet there is a bottom containment tray that can collect leaking liquids. Especially when batteries have a defect, environmentally hazardous liquids can leak. Lithium-ion batteries contain electrolytes that pose a danger to people and the environment. The containment tray integrated into the cabinet effectively holds this back.
Leveling ensures an ideal stand
The adjustable feet of the Düperthal BATTERY station line XL safety cabinet allow level compensation. Accordingly, optimal stand can be ensured on almost any surface for the battery cabinet.
Individual customization and additional equipment available
Düperthal offers extensive customization options and a wide range of accessories for the Battery-Line safety cabinets, so they can be perfectly adapted to your company’s needs.
Cabinet doors available in other colors
The door is made of steel sheet in the color PANTONE 389 C (yellow-green). Other colors are available on request. This allows the cabinets to blend optimally into your company.
Temperature monitoring, load adapters and more
Via a potential-free contact, a connection to the fire alarm center can be established. Also tested pipe penetrations are optionally available. If loads are to be stored on the cabinet roof, load adapters for mounting are available, which ensure that the fire resistance is not impaired.
Certification and maintenance of the battery safety cabinet
There are currently no legal requirements for storing lithium batteries / lithium-ion cells. By acquiring this storage system, you are optimally prepared for upcoming regulations. Lithium-ion batteries are classified as dangerous goods of class 9.
Extensive testing according to DIN / EN 14470-1
These Düperthal battery cabinet systems are tested as safety cabinets according to DIN. There are type-tested by MPA/TÜV SÜD according to DIN EN 14470-1 (fire resistance of safety cabinets for flammable liquids), DIN EN 16121 and DIN EN 16122 (test procedures for determining strength, durability and stability of storage furniture for living and non-living areas) as well as DIN 31000 hazard prevention in the sense of VdS 3103:2015-06. The BATTERY line safety cabinets are also certified as Type 90 according to EN14470-1. This means that the fire resistance of the cabinets was tested and classified for 90 minutes by the type test.
Delivery and maintenance of the battery cabinets
Delivery of the cabinets is intended up to the point of use. Before delivery, customer requirements for delivery are checked. In some cases, additional lifting equipment or similar may be required to install the cabinets. Please contact us before placing an order to discuss any special requirements.
Safety installations must be inspected by a qualified person once a year in accordance with BetrSichV, TRGS 526, TRGS 510, ArbStättV and the maintenance interval specified by the manufacturer, in accordance with TRBS 2103.
The manufacturer Düperthal - a professional in safety cabinets
Düperthal Sicherheitstechnik GmbH & Co. KG is a company based in Karlstein am Main. The company specializes in storage technology for hazardous goods and introduced the first self-closing safety cabinet in 1972.
Safe storage of lithium-ion batteries - increasingly important in the future
Lithium-ion batteries will be indispensable in all industrial applications in the coming years. However, if used improperly, the batteries can pose a significant danger during manufacture, storage, and transport. By acquiring a suitable safety cabinet, you protect yourself from large financial damages that can arise, for example, from battery fires.

FAQ
Standard security cabinets are designed for indoor use, so they cannot be used outdoors.
The fire protection panels installed in the cabinets contain gypsum, which contains a lot of water, which expands when frozen. This deforms the panels. It can no longer be guaranteed that such a cabinet is still sealed or can withstand an explosion.
If you already have a suitable room that is structurally fire-resistant, then you do not necessarily need a safety cabinet to contain the fire.
However, please do not forget that the damage caused by a battery fire involves immense and also toxic contamination, the disposal of which can quickly lead to high costs.
In addition, you may not be able to continue working as usual until the damage has been finally repaired - depending on the location of the damage.
