The collapsible storage and transport container GENIUS FLEX-BOX 2900, a foldable storage & transport box, presented here offers an ideal solution for users seeking a reliable method to transport or store lithium batteries/lithium-ion cells in accordance with the latest standards.

The features, packaging instructions, approvals and the ADR special provisions differ here depending on the selected variant.

Size and capacity of the storage and transport container

The collapsible GENIUS FLEX-BOX 2900 storage & transport box has a volume of 2900 liters and a load capacity of 1200 kg. The empty weight is 300 kg.

The FLEX-BOX 2900 has external dimensions of 2800 × 1800 × 827 mm. The internal dimensions are 2700 × 1700 × 630 mm (L × W × H) in the Basic variant, while they are 2660 × 1660 × 590 mm in the Advanced and Premium variants. The container is made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE).


Please note the distance of the fork pockets of 1 250mm!  For handling the container a heavy-duty forklift is required (in most cases).

Certification and guidelines

Lithium batteries fall into hazard class 9, which means that the goods pose a notable hazard to the environment during transport. When transporting lithium batteries, numerous requirements and guidelines must be observed.

Certified for Packaging Group II

The containers of the FLEX-BOX series meet the requirements of Packaging Group II, meaning substances with medium hazard potential may be transported in them. To achieve this classification, drop tests from 1.2 m must be passed.

Different properties and filling materials

Height of the folded box

The Variant "Basic" impresses with a folded height of 282 mm, enabling compact and space-saving storage. The variants "Advanced" and "Premium" impress with a folded height of 330 mm.

E-glass fiber needled mats and PyroBubbles provide additional protection

The Advanced variant protects the contents with E-glass fiber needled mats against shocks and vibrations. This fill material is non-combustible and non-electrically conductive. For the highest safety requirements, the Premium variant is available.

Fill material and safety features

With the "Basic" variant, no additional fill material is required. This option is ideal for transporting undamaged and non-defective batteries, according to packaging instruction P 903 which requires no special fillers. For increased safety we recommend the "Advanced" variant, which is equipped with E-glass fiber needled mats. The Advanced variant also allows storage or transport of damaged and defective batteries, prototypes and batteries for disposal or recycling. For maximum safety and protection we recommend the "Premium" variant. This uses E-glass fiber needled mats in combination with 20 supplied PyroBubbles cushions. The box is filled with the fire suppression material PyroBubbles®, which forms a closed and thermally insulating layer around a fire source. The PyroBubbles provide an additional fire protection function and contribute to safety, especially for storage or transport of lithium batteries or lithium-ion cells.

ADR special provisions

The "Basic" variant contains no specific ADR special provisions. The "Advanced" and "Premium" variants, however, meet ADR special provisions SV 376, SV 310. Transport in the sense of SV636 is of course also possible. These provisions are designed to optimize handling and transport of lithium batteries and to ensure safety across the entire transport chain, particularly with regard to recycling and disposal.
