Please note that the terms "fire blanket", "fire protection blanket" and "fire containment blanket" are used synonymously in the following, as the term "fire blanket" is primarily used colloquially for this type of protective blanket. Strictly speaking, firefighting here is achieved by limiting/containing the fire rather than by actively extinguishing it. Fires involving lithium-ion batteries and accumulators continue to pose a major challenge to people and the environment. Traditional fire extinguishers have great difficulty with fires involving these energy sources.

Protection concept for e-mobility
The JUTEC fire protection blanket is used to secure your batteries in the event of a fire and protects against the spread of flames, overheating and damage.
Features of the JUTEC surface-mounted cabinet with fire containment blanket
The surface-mounted cabinet with lock is made of galvanised sheet steel and has a red powder coating. The external dimensions of the cabinet are 1200 x 350 x 350 mm. It contains a carrying bag for the fire containment blanket, measuring 270 x 270 x 1040 mm, with a carrying handle at the top and handle tabs on the sides of the bag.
The flexible blanket has a grammage of approx. 625 g/m² and a thickness of approx. 0.7 mm. Four handle loops (2 red, 2 blue) and corner reinforcements made of aluminised fabric are sewn on. The fire blanket measures approx. 6,000 x 8,000 mm, making it suitable for vehicle sizes such as coupés, saloons, estate cars, etc. It also maintains constant temperatures of up to 1,150 °C and, for short periods, 1,300 °C. The melting point is 1,600 °C. The blanket comes in a red PVC transport bag.
The base material of the automotive fire blanket is made of special high-temperature fabric with high-temperature treatment on both sides (RH/Q 94%). In addition, a mineral vermiculite coating is applied to both sides, which binds hydrofluoric acid (HF) proportionally. The corners are also reinforced with KA-2 hard fabric. Furthermore, there is no fibre breakage under temperature change stress, a so-called thermal shock, as occurs with glass fibre, for example. Furthermore, the silicate fabric with a 96% SiO2 content allows cooling from above, which is extremely useful for firefighting operations.
Protection and prevention
The fire protection blanket from JUTEC prevents the release of flames, which isolates the fires and thus enables a reduction in the oxygen content at the scene of the fire, which supports the extinguishing work.
Using the fire blanket in the event of a fire
If you hear a distinct hissing noise or even see smoke coming from the battery area, place the fire blanket over the vehicle. As a chain reaction causes the fire in the electric battery to spread from cell to cell, burning through all the cells is a lengthy process and can vary depending on the manufacturer and type. Leave the blanket on the vehicle or battery until the chain reaction has ended and always alert the fire brigade.
Blanket to be removed only by emergency services
The fire blanket is designed to prevent the flames from spreading to the surrounding area. Always leave the fire blanket on the vehicle until the emergency services arrive. The blanket should only be removed by emergency services.
Safe use thanks to fabric classified according to European fire safety testing and additional safety thanks to an electrostatic report
The material of the fire blanket has excellent chemical resistance. In addition, European fire safety testing of the fabric was carried out in accordance with DIN EN 13501-1 with the result "Class A1, non-combustible". There is also an EC safety data sheet in accordance with 91/115/EEC and an electrostatic report in accordance with DIN 54345-1.

term "fire blanket"
At EU level, there is a standard DIN EN 1869:2019-10 for the term fire blanket / fire protection blanket, but this refers to the standard fire test object "deep-frying equipment with a maximum capacity of 3 litres of cooking oil/fat", meaning that a fire blanket / fire blanket is intended for extinguishing cooking oil and cooking fat fires. Please note that the products offered here do not comply with the DIN EN 1869:2019-10 standard and are not intended/approved for extinguishing cooking oil and cooking fat fires. The intended use of the fire blanket/fire protection blanket presented here is to contain/combat Li-ion battery fires.
