Product information „PRIOCOVER Mobile Fire Protection Cover“
In warehouses where lithium-ion rechargeable batteries / batteries are stored, malfunctioning cells can pose a high hazard potential to employees and operational and warehouse technology. Explosive battery fires (“thermal runaway”) are difficult to control. In the "General Safety Rules for Lithium Batteries (VdS 3103: 2019-06)", VdS recommends removing damaged or defective lithium batteries from storage and production areas immediately and storing them temporarily at a safe distance or in a fire-protection-separated area. This PRIOCOVER cover housing from PIORIT is a simple and portable solution for active and passive fire protection of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. If you are interested, please contact us to receive an individual offer tailored to you.
Size, design and function of the fire protection cover
The PRIOCOVER mobile fire protection cover has external dimensions of 1,390 x 990 x 1,005 mm (LxWxH) and internal dimensions of 1,300 x 900 x 908 mm (LxWxH). The weight is 400 kg. Custom sizes are also available on request.
Solid housing made of non-combustible board material
The housing consists of a non-combustible board material with a wall thickness of 42 mm. It features a solid construction, high stability and high surface hardness. It is a CPL surface (Continuous Pressure Laminate), in which the board layers are pressed under constant pressure and temperature. The housing is finished in light grey, similar to RAL 7035. In addition, the fire protection cover is recyclable and free of harmful substances.
Can be lifted with a forklift
Crane eyes on the sides make it possible to lift the housing using round slings and a forklift. In use, the fire protection cover is simply placed over loaded Euro pallets, drip trays or wire mesh boxes.
Efficient handling - rechargeable batteries / batteries remain on the pallet
For storage under the mobile fire protection cover, the lithium-ion batteries / rechargeable batteries can remain on the pallet, avoiding time-consuming reloading or rearranging. In addition, damaged batteries can be safely protected from further damage or access until collection or disposal.
Fitting set enables the introduction of cooling water or cable transit
Optionally, a fitting set can be installed on the top to direct cooling water into the container and/or a cable transit for safely charging the rechargeable batteries.
Round slings, carabiners and floor drip tray available as optional accessories
A lifting set consisting of 2 round slings and 4 carabiners, as well as a floor drip tray to collect any possible leaks, are available as accessories for the mobile battery fire protection cover.
Certification and guidelines of the mobile battery fire protection cover
The surface material is non-combustible according to classification A2 – s1, d0. The housing is suitable for providing a fire resistance rating of 90 minutes. It has been tested according to European standards (EN) and has a Green Building declaration according to LEED and DGNB.
The manufacturer
PRIORIT AG from Hanau has stood for innovative structural fire protection solutions for 20 years. The range extends from products for the structural protection of escape and rescue routes to solutions for tunnel construction and the protection of IT systems and the storage of hazardous materials.
Based on building materials classified as non-combustible, PRIORIT manufactures fire-resistant components with decorative surfaces, thereby offering the possibility of harmonizing safety and design aspects.
Safe storage of rechargeable batteries with the mobile fire protection cover
Lithium-ion batteries will become indispensable in all industrial applications in the coming years. However, improper use can result in a considerable hazard potential from the batteries during manufacturing, storage and transport. By purchasing this mobile fire protection cover, you protect yourself against major financial losses right from the start.

FAQ
That depends on various factors that need to be considered:
- size of the battery(ies)
- condition (e.g. non-critical, defective, critically defective or prototype)
- power
Transport boxes are available in many different sizes and specifications. The packaging group for which the box is suitable is indicated for each product.

Even if the batteries are not critical, remember to protect them from shocks and to order appropriate filling material if it is not already included in the box.
Yes. Should a battery reach a critical state and cause a fire, separating the batteries will prevent the fire from spreading and multiplying.
Generally, the insulation and protection material should line all sides of the container. The batteries are stored between individual layers.
We also have containers in our program that already have the protective material integrated into the outer wall. No further protective layer is necessary here.
The technical principles for storage and transportation solutions are very similar. The transport boxes are also subjected to extensive tests in accordance with ADR (drop test, fire test, etc.) to confirm compliance with the ADR regulations. The packaging regulations are extensive and regulated by law.
There are currently no comparable regulations for storage. Nevertheless, manufacturers of storage boxes regularly carry out appropriate tests.
The right container depends on the type and size of the battery to be shipped or stored.

The transportation of batteries is subject to ADR regulations.
The number, size and weight, energy density and condition of the batteries are crucial parameters for finding a suitable transport container for lithium-ion batteries. The selection process is complex and should be carried out by appropriately trained personnel. We have a trained hazardous materials officer on our team. Please feel free to contact us.
Plastic containers are cheaper but not as durable as metal containers. They are suitable, for example, for non-critical batteries, defective batteries, prototypes and end-of-life batteries. They can be used for both storage and transportation.
Metal containers are required, for example, when dealing with critically defective batteries.
The exact packaging instructions for these cases can be found in the ADR or by consulting a certified hazardous materials specialist.
To date, there are no legal requirements for the storage of lithium-ion batteries, which does not mean that they should be stored without suitable protective measures.
It is best to check with your insurer to find out which measures they recognize as suitable in the event of a claim.
For example, a suitable box could already be recognized as spatial separation.
