  • Emergency power supply for the monitoring electronics

Size and function of the Raclan-Box II

This battery charging box has external dimensions of 580 x 380 x 380 mm (L x W x H). The weight is between 22 and 25 kg (including extinguishing agent, depending on the version) and the interior of the charging box measures 540 x 340 x 200 mm.

The lithium batteries are placed in the box together with the chargers and connected. The front flap is then securely closed. The power supply can then be switched on and an electronic monitoring system checks the charging process and the interior of the box.

If the system detects a rise in temperature or smoke gas, it immediately issues a visual and audible alarm. In the event of an alarm, the pressure-free extinguishing system sprays an environmentally friendly extinguishing and cooling agent over the batteries to stop the fire. The resulting smoke/gas mixture is filtered into the exhaust gas management system so that no toxic substances can escape.

2 230 V sockets are available

There are two 230 V sockets in the ceiling of the box for connecting your chargers.

Scope of delivery

  • 4 x adjustable feet
  • 1 x Allen key
  • 2 x keys for the key switch
  • 2 x keys for locking the front flap

Techno-Physics Raclan Box II - Hydrogen explosion simulation

A hydrogen explosion of a lithium-ion battery can cause pressure peaks of up to 7.2 bar in a safety container. This accelerates individual battery cells to up to 300 m/s. For comparison: a 9mm bullet reaches 360 m/s. This means that battery cells become red-hot (+600°C) projectiles. This is the highest load that a RACLAN-Box II has to withstand. Specially developed frame geometries and ballistic composite materials are used for the housing of the boxes.

For risk and damage analyses of the structures of our Raclan boxes, numerical simulations are used to determine the effects of impact and pressure wave loads in advance. Here is an excerpt from one such simulation. The calculation of the simulations is very complex and takes several days.

Only when these simulations confirm that the RACLAN boxes successfully withstand the hydrogen explosion and that the fire protection and tightness are 100% maintained, does the next phase begin, namely the explosion and fire tests in a fire laboratory.

Other information

Warnings

  • Use exclusively for storing and charging lithium-ion batteries.
  • The full protective effect is only provided when completely closed.
  • Do not store easily flammable materials in the immediate vicinity.
  • Only use the box up to a maximum battery capacity of 1754 Wh in total, or 877 Wh per lithium-ion battery
  • In poorly ventilated facilities, a proper ventilation duct must be connected to the outside

Maintenance and care

For private use, the RACLAN® Box II is largely maintenance-free. The inside and outside of the box can be cleaned with warm water. For further instructions, please refer to the operating instructions.

The perfect storage location with integrated charging option for rechargeable batteries

Battery-powered devices have become an integral part of everyday professional and business life. From electrical appliances and power tools with rechargeable batteries, which every tradesperson has with them, to hand-held scanners in order picking and logistics, to navigation devices, smartphones, etc., which are now also part of the basic equipment of many professions - Li-ion batteries and rechargeable batteries are becoming increasingly pervasive in everyday working life. In addition to organized storage when not in use, charging has become increasingly important, as devices can only be used optimally with a full battery, making combined storage and charging solutions indispensable for companies and public clients. Battery charging boxes combine precisely these two functions: They enable storage and simultaneous charging of the batteries. The box is operated externally with 100-230 V / 50-60 Hz and has an internalrechargeable 12 V LiFePO₄ battery, allowing flexible and independent use even without a direct mains power supply.

VDS recommendation for the storage of lithium-ion batteries

There are currently no legal regulations for the storage of lithium batteries / lithium-ion batteries. Only VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH issues general safety rules for damage prevention in its publication VdS 3103 : 2019-06 (03). It is advisable to clarify your requirements with your property insurance company in advance.

FAQ
Fragen & Antworten zum Artikel ... mehr
What must be considered when storing lithium-ion batteries?

To date, there are no legal requirements for the storage of lithium-ion batteries, which does not mean that they should be stored without suitable protective measures.

It is best to check with your insurer to find out which measures they recognize as suitable in the event of a claim.

For example, a suitable box could already be recognized as spatial separation.
