Product information „Düperthal BATTERY station line M Ladeschrank“
This safety cabinet is an innovative storage and charging system for lithium-ion batteries. Düperthal has developed this innovative and DIN-certified cabinet system to prevent damage caused by failing battery cells. Smoke gases in particular can cause permanent damage to surrounding electronic devices. Düperthal’s BATTERY line cabinets protect you right from the start against this and other damage that can arise, for example, from lithium-ion battery cells undergoing thermal runaway. It is precisely the tested fire resistance from the inside out that makes this system particularly suitable for use in industrial settings.
Size, capacity and function of the battery safety cabinet
The Station range of the Düperthal BATTERY line comprises various safety cabinets for lithium-ion batteries. The storage shelves also feature 230 V sockets for connecting chargers. The power connection for the lithium battery cabinet itself is via a reverse-polarity-protected 16 A CEE L+N+PE 6h plug, meaning that, in addition to simply storing lithium-ion batteries, charging is also possible. The supply voltage is single-phase 230 V / 50 Hz, max. 3.68 kW. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require a higher supply voltage.
Alarm transmission for Düperthal battery safety cabinets
As an option, Düperthal systems can be fitted with an alarm relay via a potential-free contact. Visual and audible signals, as well as remote signalling modules, are also available. Please do not hesitate to contact us regarding these systems if required: info@lion-care.com or +49 7151 256 4811.
Storage capacity of the Düperthal BATTERY station line M safety cabinet
The Model M has external dimensions of 594 x 612 x 2,051 mm (width x depth x height). Please refer to the dimensions sheet, which can be found in the downloads section, for the internal dimensions. The empty weight is 320 kg, with a maximum internal cabinet volume of 0.43 m³. The cabinet can be accessed from underneath with a pallet truck for easier handling.
54 Ah per stored cell permitted
The maximum capacity of the individual lithium-ion cells that may be stored in the cabinet is 54 Ah. Please note that the 54 Ah does not refer to the entire battery, as each battery consists of several cells. This value covers the majority of batteries in use today. Each storage level has a load capacity of 75 kg. The spill tray at the base of the cabinet has a volume of 11 l. You can find a video of the fire test carried out in the ‘Videos’ tab.
One storage area per shelf level
In the M version, the safety cabinet has four storage levels. There are four 230 V Schuko sockets per storage level.
Also suitable for charging
All storage levels are fitted with four sockets, meaning that the Düperthal BATTERY Station Line M safety cabinet is not only suitable for storing Li-ion batteries but also allows them to be charged simultaneously – ideal for integration into the day-to-day operations of many businesses. The sockets are located on the right-hand side of the battery safety cabinet. Maximum safety is combined here with optimised operational processes.
Düperthal BATTERY Station Line M battery cabinet – safety of the highest standard
The safe storage of lithium-ion batteries was Düperthal’s top priority when developing this cabinet. The various safety mechanisms, which protect the environment in the event of a battery fire or even a battery explosion, are correspondingly comprehensive and sophisticated.
Fire resistance class F90 / Type 90 – 90 minutes’ protection in the event of a fire
If a lithium-ion battery catches fire, the surrounding environment must be reliably protected from the resulting hazards. Düperthal’s battery safety cabinets, such as the Düperthal BATTERY station line M safety cabinet shown here, have a fire resistance rating of F90 / Type 90, meaning they offer 90 minutes’ protection before the burning batteries cause damage to the surrounding area. Within these 90 minutes, the surrounding area can be evacuated, initial countermeasures can be taken using suitable battery fire extinguishers and extinguishing agents, and the fire brigade can be called, thereby ensuring optimum safety.
Double protection – for the environment and for the stored lithium-ion batteries
Unlike many other manufacturers of safety cabinets, Düperthal’s models undergo a dual fire resistance test. The F90 fire resistance rating applies both from the inside out and from the outside in. This means that not only is the environment protected if the batteries catch fire (protection from the inside out), but the lithium-ion batteries are also protected if a fire breaks out around the safety cabinet (protection from the outside in).
Intelligent locking mechanisms for the cabinet doors
The door remains open in any position, but a cylinder lock with a permanent locking mechanism can secure the hinged door. At a temperature of approximately 50 °C, the door closes automatically due to the thermal activation of the automatic door-closing mechanism. A backdraft barrier ensures that the door can no longer be opened. The fire service can open the doors using an emergency release mechanism on the top of the cabinet.
Exhaust vents close automatically from the outside in the event of a fire
The cabinet is fitted with an exhaust pipe with a nominal width of 110 mm and a 75 mm adapter. In the event of a fire outside the cabinet, the safety mechanism closes the exhaust vents when the room temperature reaches approximately 70 °C. Inspection hatches are incorporated above the false ceiling; these turn red when the exhaust air vents close. In the event of a fire inside the cabinet, the smoke gases are ‘forced’ into the cabinet and can be channelled to the outside via the exhaust air connection. Please note that the connection to the exhaust air system, as well as any materials required for this, are not included in the scope of supply or services. The connection to the exhaust air system must be provided by the customer.
Spill trays contain hazardous liquids
At the base of the battery cabinet there is a floor drip tray designed to collect any leaking liquids. Particularly when batteries are faulty, environmentally hazardous liquids may leak out. For example, lithium-ion batteries contain electrolytes that pose a risk to both people and the environment. The drip tray integrated into the cabinet effectively contains these liquids.
Levelling ensures the cabinet stands perfectly level
The levelling feet of the Düperthal BATTERY Station Line M safety cabinet are adjustable, allowing for levelling. This ensures that the battery cabinet stands securely on virtually any surface.
Customisation and additional fittings available
Düperthal offers a wide range of customisation options and extensive accessories for the Battery-Line safety cabinets, allowing them to be perfectly tailored to your company’s specific needs.
Cabinet doors available in other colours
The door is made of sheet steel in the colour PANTONE 389 C (yellow-green). Other colours are available on request. This allows the cabinets to be seamlessly integrated into your business environment.
Temperature monitoring, load-bearing adaptors and much more
Tested pipe penetrations are available as an option. If loads are to be placed on the cabinet roof, load-bearing adapters are available for installation, ensuring that fire resistance is not compromised.
Certification and maintenance of the battery safety cabinet
There are currently no legal regulations governing the storage of lithium batteries / lithium-ion batteries. However, by purchasing this storage system, you will be fully prepared for any future regulations. Lithium-ion batteries are classified as Class 9 dangerous goods.
Comprehensive testing in accordance with DIN/EN 14470-1
These battery cabinet systems from Düperthal are tested as safety cabinets in accordance with DIN. Type tests have been carried out by MPA/TÜV SÜD in accordance with DIN EN 14470-1 (Fire resistance of safety cabinets for flammable liquids), DIN EN 16121 and DIN EN 16122 (test methods for determining the strength, durability and stability of storage units for residential and non-residential use) as well as DIN 31000 Damage Prevention in accordance with VdS 3103:2015-06. The BATTERY line safety cabinets are also certified as Type 90 in accordance with EN 14470-1. This means that the fire resistance of the cabinets has been type-tested and classified as exceeding 90 minutes.

Safe storage of lithium-ion batteries – increasingly important in the future
Lithium-ion batteries will become indispensable in all industrial applications in the coming years. However, if used improperly, these batteries can pose a potential hazard – one that should not be underestimated – during manufacture, storage and transport. By purchasing a suitable safety cabinet, you protect yourself from the outset against significant financial losses that could arise, for example, from battery fires.

FAQ
Standard security cabinets are designed for indoor use, so they cannot be used outdoors.
The fire protection panels installed in the cabinets contain gypsum, which contains a lot of water, which expands when frozen. This deforms the panels. It can no longer be guaranteed that such a cabinet is still sealed or can withstand an explosion.
If you already have a suitable room that is structurally fire-resistant, then you do not necessarily need a safety cabinet to contain the fire.
However, please do not forget that the damage caused by a battery fire involves immense and also toxic contamination, the disposal of which can quickly lead to high costs.
In addition, you may not be able to continue working as usual until the damage has been finally repaired - depending on the location of the damage.
