Extinguishing fires involving lithium-ion batteries poses particular challenges for firefighting. This fire extinguisher is particularly suitable for fires involving plastics, rubber and batteries, and can be operated by a single person. Furthermore, it is designed for easy maintenance and user-friendly operation.

Please note: No maintenance sticker is attached, included or available to order!

Compact fire extinguisher

The F-500 WD 6 DD fire extinguisher from Neuruppin has a capacity of 6 litres. This allows for a spray duration of approx. 29 seconds with a spray range of 5–6 m. The fire extinguisher has external dimensions of 570 x 225 x 225 mm and weighs 11.4 kg.

The fire extinguisher is also available in a 3-litre version.

Easy to use

The environmentally friendly extinguishing agent, which is frost-resistant down to –30 °C, can tackle the fire quickly and effectively. It consists mainly of water and the fluorine-free additive F-500 Encapsulator Agent. F-500 encapsulates and smothers the fuels and flammable gases.

The tried-and-tested constant-pressure technology, featuring a galvanised brass valve, test valve and pressure gauge, combined with its robust construction ‘Made in Germany’, guarantees a long service life. An overpressure protection mechanism provides additional safety.

Wide range of applications

The fire extinguisher is specifically designed for use on burning lithium-ion batteries, rubber tyres or plastics. It is already in use in the following sectors, amongst others:

  • Government departments & public authorities
  • Car dealerships
  • Battery production
  • Firefighting involving a wide variety of materials, particularly plastics, rubber, wood, lithium-ion batteries and cars
  • Chemical factories
  • Printing works
  • Electric vehicle charging stations
  • Trade fairs & conferences
  • Car parks & garages
  • Recycling plants & landfill sites
  • Places of assembly

Further special advantages of the Neuruppin F-500 WD 6 DD fire extinguisher

  • Frost-resistant, operational down to -30 °C
  • Very powerful cooling effect due to earlier energy transfer into the extinguishing water (phase change begins as early as approx. 70 °C)
  • Reduced surface tension of the extinguishing agent improves the extinguishing effect
  • Suitable for use on electrical installations up to 1,000 V at a safety distance of 1 m

F-500 EA extinguishing agent additive – proven firefighting performance

F-500 EA is an innovative, environmentally friendly and forward-looking multifunctional extinguishing agent. It has been tested and approved and, in accordance with the Chemicals Act, has no hazardous properties. Thanks to its combined extinguishing properties, it is extremely effective as an active extinguishing agent additive and is ideal for fighting fires involving solid organic combustible materials, polar and non-polar flammable liquids, flammable light metals, burning fats, and burning and reacting lithium-ion batteries.

F-500 EA, as a multifunctional fire-extinguishing additive to water, is suitable for 98 per cent of all fires and, provided the recommended storage conditions are observed, has a shelf life of 15 years.

F-500 EA is already in use for firefighting at companies such as RWE, BMW, Tesla, Liebherr, Stihl, Bosch and many others.

Neuruppin Fire Extinguishers – meeting the highest standards for the protection of people and property

The success story began as early as 1905 with the start of production at the fire extinguisher factory on Lake Neuruppin. For over 100 years, fire extinguishers from Neuruppin have set the standard in preventive fire safety.

The fire safety products are manufactured in Germany in accordance with the strictest European regulations. This guarantees the highest quality. Furthermore, the production process is ISO 9001:2008 certified and is regularly monitored by various testing organisations.

Looking to the future

In the coming years, lithium-ion batteries will become indispensable in all industrial applications and, increasingly, in domestic ones too. However, if used improperly, these batteries can pose a significant potential hazard during manufacture, storage and transport. By purchasing a suitable fire extinguisher, you can protect yourself from the outset against significant financial losses that could arise, for example, from battery fires.

FAQ

Lithium-ion batteries are not currently assigned to any specific fire class. These batteries consist of various solid and liquid components, which makes a specific classification difficult. Focusing solely on, for example, fire class D is not effective.
There are currently no specific, standardized testing procedures that conclusively prove suitability. All systems sold to us have been tested for suitability through the manufacturers’ internal tests and/or, in some cases, verified by external laboratories. Where clear statements regarding suitability (e.g., maximum energy density) are available, these are included in the product description. Please contact us if you have any doubts or questions.
In most cases, this involves water with various additives. Bavaria’s Water Glue is a gel that adheres exceptionally well to surfaces and also ensures that the areas treated with the gel cannot ignite. The systems from Gloria and Neuruppin consist of water with an extinguishing agent additive (Imprex-C or F500-EA) that alters the properties of the water. These additives change the surface tension of the water, improve penetration depth, and enhance the water’s cooling effect. LithiumX from Bavaria is an aqueous dispersion in which natural silicon crystals are suspended in an aqueous solution. When sprayed onto the burning material, the water evaporates and the microscopic silicon flakes swell and fuse into an impermeable barrier layer. This isolates the fire, and the thermal radiation above the barrier layer immediately drops below 100°C. These systems are also marketed under the alternative designation “AVD.” PyroBubbles: PyroBubbles are small glass beads. In the event of a fire, the granules melt and form a closed, thermally insulating layer around the fire source, thereby depriving it of oxygen. Combustible reaction gases are reduced thanks to the pores in the beads. The high specific heat capacity absorbs thermal energy, and the temperature is lowered due to the cooling effect. Furthermore, combustible material is shielded by the low thermal conductivity. Please note: Active fire suppression with PyroBubbles requires a specific fire protection design.
