Product information „LOXXER Charging cabinet LOXK2000 VDMA“
The storage and charging cabinet was designed for indoor use to safely store and charge lithium-ion batteries, with a focus primarily on batteries for bicycles, scooters, hand tools, and similar applications. The LOXK2000 has been redesigned, and thanks to a reinforced frame, the new cabinets are more robust and durable than ever before. The concept and overall functionality remain unchanged, and with regard to aesthetics, the cabinet’s fabrication has also been further refined.
The new system meets the requirements of the VDMA standard sheet 24994!
Dimensions and features of the LOXK2000 VDMA charging cabinet.
The LOXK2000 VDMA charging cabinet weighs approximately 450 kg and has exterior dimensions of 2 040 x 1 142 x 765 mm, or 1 600 x 1 070 x 680 mm internally. The adapted design allows the cabinets to be moved through standard doors. This simplifies delivery and in case of an incident the cabinet can be quickly moved outside the danger zone. The power supply is 380 V. The cabinet should be installed indoors under normal conditions. Inside the cabinet there are 4 insulating shelf levels. Each shelf level is equipped with a power strip containing 8 outlets.
Technical properties of the charging cabinet: fire-retardant materials to buy time for additional actions
The cabinet is made of materials that meet fire resistance of over 90 minutes, meaning that in case of a fire it protects the stored batteries and other items for a significant period. A pressure relief valve reduces the pressure in the cabinet in case of an explosion and lowers the internal pressure to a normal level. The shelf boards are thermally insulated! It is also possible to connect a pipe that vents smoke to a safe location outside!
A comprehensive detection system is factory-fitted
The cabinet features a smoke detector, as well as an optical and acoustic alarm system, which triggers in the event of a fire. In addition, remote notifications are possible via an online portal.
Optional aerosol fire suppression system provides additional safety
In the event of a fire, the charging cabinet optionally includes an aerosol suppression system that helps to fight the fire and prevent its spread. The fire suppression system must be ordered as an accessory!
Rapid fire detection and triggering of the aerosol fire suppression system
The LOXXER battery storage and charging cabinets are equipped with two smoke detectors that ensure rapid detection of a lithium-ion battery in thermal runaway. Thus, at the first sign of smoke, the aerosol is activated to immediately respond to the situation. The aerosol cools and controls the battery during a thermal runaway to prevent fire spread. Effectiveness has been certified by the KIWA Institute.
Fire containment for at least 90 minutes
This LOXXER system provides 90 minutes of fire protection and can ensure that the fire remains confined to the cabinet interior.
The cabinet meets the requirements of the VDMA standard sheet 24994
The VDMA 24994 test is a German testing standard developed by the German Engineering Federation (VDMA). In this test, lithium-ion batteries are deliberately driven into thermal runaway to assess the safety and performance of the cabinet under extreme conditions.
The evaluation focuses particularly on:
-
the structural stability of the cabinet,
-
the temperature development on the outside,
LOXXER achieved excellent results in the test:
-
The doors remained safely closed even under extreme loading.
-
The exterior temperature remained controlled and within safe limits.
-
The cabinet withstood severe battery explosions.
-
Smoke and gases were reliably vented via the integrated ventilation system
What is VDMA and what is the significance of the test?
The VDMA (Association of German Machinery and Plant Engineering) is the central industry association for machinery and plant engineering in Germany. It develops standards and guidelines for industrial products, including safety-relevant standards for handling lithium-ion batteries. These batteries pose significant risks such as fires, explosions, and release of toxic gases when overheated. The VDMA standard 24994:2024-08 thus sets clear test requirements for storage cabinets to assess their resistance to thermal runaway or external fire exposure. The VDMA test provides companies with an important additional safety layer in daily handling of lithium-ion batteries.
Advanced technology in combination with the fire suppression system
To test the effectiveness of the cabinets with the optional aerosol, extensive KIWA tests with lithium-ion batteries in thermal runaway were conducted. These tests show that the systems can keep the battery under control for at least 90 minutes and ensure that the remaining batteries in the cabinet are protected.
How does the extinguishing agent work in the AF-X unit?
- Physical reaction
By absorbing the energy required for the chemical reaction, a cooling effect is produced.
- Chemical reaction
The unstable radicals (OH) react more quickly with potassium (K) than the combustion reaction and form stable potassium hydroxide (KOH). Explanation: During this reaction, certain chemicals in the aerosol, such as potassium (K), react with the fire source. This prevents burning materials from continuing to fuel the reaction that sustains the fire. As a result, the fire is effectively extinguished or temporarily suppressed.

Functions of the cabinet and the integrated outlets
The shelf boards are thermally insulating. On each level you will find a power strip with 8 outlets.
MyLoxxer platform & system monitoring
Optional software is available to send notifications by SMS and email. The system monitoring can also be accessed via the MyLoxxer portal, so you are always informed about the status of your cabinets.
Certified fire alarm system
The certified fire alarm system (EN12094) ensures proper integration with your existing fire alarm control panel, which is essential for reliable fire detection and response.
A pressure relief valve releases the pressure in case of an internal puff in the cabinet
A pressure relief valve, in the event of a battery explosion, opens during a fire and releases the energy accordingly.
Active ventilation prevents heat buildup in the cabinet
The active ventilation system (or forced ventilation) ensures that heat development inside the cabinet remains within an appropriate range.
Other features of the battery charging cabinet
Other features include fold-out cabinet doors, adjustable support feet to align the cabinet, and active ventilation systems for heat dissipation. The cabinets can be rolled from all sides.
Self-locking doors with locks and multi-point locking
The cabinet has two self-closing doors with door contacts. The door contacts detect if a door remains open for more than five minutes. If this occurs, the cabinet sends a message to the user via the MyLoxxer platform and a warning signal sounds. The doors feature a multi-point locking system and can be locked with a key.
Priority areas and operation in case of smoke detection
The operation of the charging cabinet is designed to ensure user safety and the integrity of the stored batteries. The five priority areas include:
- Ensuring safe operation
- Detection of smoke and fire
- Alerting in case of danger
- Activation of aerosol fire suppression
- Control of lithium fires inside the cabinet to prevent spread
In the event of smoke detection, the charging cabinet executes a series of predefined steps to minimize potential hazards:
- Triggering an audible and visual alarm via a siren and a red rotating beacon to warn users.
- Interruption of the battery charging process to prevent further energy accumulation.
- Deactivation of the active ventilation to prevent further spread of smoke or fire.
- Activation of the aerosol fire suppression system to contain the fire and ensure safety of the surroundings
- Overall, the charging cabinet provides a safe and reliable solution for charging and storing lithium-ion batteries for bicycles and scooters, with its technical features and safety precautions minimizing potential risks.
General guidelines for battery storage
There are currently no legal regulations for storing lithium batteries / lithium-ion cells. Only VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH provides general safety rules for damage prevention in its publication VdS 3103:2019-06 (03). It is advisable to clarify your requirements with your property insurer in advance.

FAQ
Standard security cabinets are designed for indoor use, so they cannot be used outdoors.
The fire protection panels installed in the cabinets contain gypsum, which contains a lot of water, which expands when frozen. This deforms the panels. It can no longer be guaranteed that such a cabinet is still sealed or can withstand an explosion.
If you already have a suitable room that is structurally fire-resistant, then you do not necessarily need a safety cabinet to contain the fire.
However, please do not forget that the damage caused by a battery fire involves immense and also toxic contamination, the disposal of which can quickly lead to high costs.
In addition, you may not be able to continue working as usual until the damage has been finally repaired - depending on the location of the damage.
