Product information „PRIORIT PRIOLION 2-flg. Ladeschrank“
The increasing safety requirements stem from the growing use of lithium-ion batteries across various business sectors. Active and passive storage solutions for these batteries are of particular importance in the retail sector for power tools, e-bikes and garden tools.
Innovative safety cabinet for lithium-ion batteries with GS certification
As lithium-ion batteries become increasingly widespread in various business sectors such as power tools, e-bikes and garden tools, the need for safe storage is growing. The PRIOLION safety cabinet meets the strict standards and testing requirements to ensure the highest safety standards. The PRIOLION safety cabinet from Priorit is the first model to meet the strict requirements of test specification EK5/AK4 22-01.

GS certification and development work
In accordance with GS test principle EK5/AK4 22-01, PRIORIT has developed a brand-new safety cabinet specifically for the active and passive storage of lithium-ion batteries. The cabinet has successfully passed the tests and been awarded the GS mark, which certifies its suitability for the safe storage of new and used batteries.
Key points regarding test principle EK5/AK4 22-01 at a glance:
- When defining the test principles for safety cabinets intended for the storage of lithium batteries, the assumption is that they are designed for standard, commercially available complete batteries
- Stricter requirements compared with EN 14470-1 in the event of an external fire (maximum temperature rise of 100 K instead of 180 K for safety cabinets)
- The doors must not have a closing delay of more than 10 s. Keeping the doors open permanently is not permitted
- All internal surfaces and fitted components must be non-combustible
- Heat lost during the charging process must be dissipated. Thermal calculation in accordance with EN 61439-1
- The air exchange rate must be designed such that the temperature inside the cabinet does not exceed 60°C.
- The escape of hazardous gases must be prevented. Ventilation valves must be fitted with a flame arrestor
- The status of the valves must be indicated from the outside
- A floor drip tray with a minimum capacity of 1 litre must be provided to collect any leaked electrolytes
- Stricter requirements for cable entries
Fire resistance and compartmentalisation
The GS-certified PRIOLION safety cabinet offers an impressive fire resistance rating of 90 minutes, both from the inside and the outside. The assessment was carried out in accordance with the requirements of DIN EN 14470-1:2004-07 via a fire test conducted from the outside in. Under more demanding conditions, the temperature inside the cabinet must not rise by more than 100 Kelvin after 90 minutes of exposure to an external fire, which minimises the risk of thermal runaway in the stored batteries in the event of a fire.
Smoke-tightness and safety features
Given the high fire risk posed by lithium-ion batteries, the GS test principle stipulates that certified products must ensure 90-minute compartmentalisation in accordance with DIN EN 1363-2:1999-10. The PRIOLION cabinet therefore eliminates the risk to the surrounding area for at least 90 minutes in the event of a fire inside.
Another outstanding feature of the GS-certified PRIOLION cabinet is its smoke-tightness. The system also comes factory-fitted with an active fan, which would switch off automatically in the event of a fire.
Three-point locking and temperature control
The PRIOLION cabinet’s permanent three-point locking system meets the GS test requirements and ensures the highest level of safety. The test criteria also require proof of compliance with temperature rise limits in accordance with DIN EN 61439, which is achieved through an intelligent ventilation control system in the PRIOLION cabinet. This process effectively dissipates the heat generated whilst the batteries are charging from the cabinet. Indicator lights on the control unit provide important information about the conditions inside the cabinet even when the doors are closed. The fan switches off in the event of a fire.
Alarm function and emergency protection
The PRIOLION cabinet is fitted with a potential-free alarm contact, via which warning messages can be sent to a control centre. In the event of an emergency, a complete shutdown of the cabinet’s power supply provides additional protection.
Materials & Finish
The safety cabinets are characterised by high-quality materials and a variety of finishes. The standard finish consists of CPL (Continuous Pressure Laminate), a non-combustible panel with a surface coating. This panel is classified as non-combustible in accordance with classification A2 – s1, d0, which ensures the highest safety standards.
The standard finish is in an attractive light grey shade, similar to RAL 7035. This not only gives the safety cabinet a modern look, but also ensures good visibility in its surroundings.
Technical specifications (standard configuration)
- External dimensions: 1,212 x 664 x 2,250 mm
- Internal dimensions: 1 004 x 453 x 1 687 mm
- Entry width of transport base: 1,084 mm
- Entry height of transport base: 100 mm
- Power consumption in operation: max. 50 W
- Rated voltage: 230 V
- Frequency: 50 Hz
- Total power of power strip: fuse rating (single-phase): 16 A, total power = 3.50 kW; 230 V
It is possible to increase the total power to 11.0 kW at 400 V. Please refer to the variants.
Tested fire resistance
The safety cabinet offers a tested fire resistance of 90 minutes from the outside in, in accordance with DIN EN 14470-1. This minimises the risk of thermal run-through of the stored batteries in the event of a fire. The maximum temperature rise inside the cabinet does not exceed 100 K at any temperature measurement point.
Optional fire suppression system provides additional safety
The optional fire suppression system can further increase the time available to act in the event of a fire. An aerosol is sprayed into the cabinet, which can interfere with the chemical process of the fire to suppress it even further.
Fire resistance from the inside out
The cabinet also meets the requirements of DIN EN 1363-2 and offers a tested fire resistance of 90 minutes from the inside out.
Self-closing doors tested for continuous operation
The cabinet’s doors are not only self-closing but have also undergone endurance testing to ensure their reliability.
Suitable for the storage and charging of lithium-ion batteries
The safety cabinet is suitable for both the storage and charging of lithium-ion batteries, ensuring flexibility and efficiency.
Internal real-fire test
Another key feature is the internal real-fire test carried out on a fully loaded cabinet, which ensures additional safety and reliability.
Design & Features
The safety cabinets impress not only with their robust construction, but also with their well-thought-out features designed for maximum functionality.

FAQ
Standard security cabinets are designed for indoor use, so they cannot be used outdoors.
The fire protection panels installed in the cabinets contain gypsum, which contains a lot of water, which expands when frozen. This deforms the panels. It can no longer be guaranteed that such a cabinet is still sealed or can withstand an explosion.
If you already have a suitable room that is structurally fire-resistant, then you do not necessarily need a safety cabinet to contain the fire.
However, please do not forget that the damage caused by a battery fire involves immense and also toxic contamination, the disposal of which can quickly lead to high costs.
In addition, you may not be able to continue working as usual until the damage has been finally repaired - depending on the location of the damage.
