GS certification and development work
In accordance with GS test principle EK5/AK4 22-01. The cabinet has successfully passed tests and received the GS mark, which certifies its suitability for the safe storage of new and used batteries.
The most important information about the EK5/AK4 22-01 testing principle at a glance :
- When specifying the testing principles for safety cabinets for the storage of lithium batteries, commercially available complete batteries are used as a basis
- Stricter requirements than EN 14470-1 in the event of external fire (maximum temperature increase of 100 K instead of 180 K for safety cabinets)
- The doors may have a maximum closing delay of 10 seconds. Permanent open holding is not permitted
- All internal surfaces and built-in equipment must be non-combustible
- The heat loss from the charging process must be dissipated. Heat calculation according to EN 61439-1
- The air exchange must be dimensioned so that the temperature inside the cabinet does not exceed 60°C.
- The escape of hazardous gases must be prevented. Ventilation valves require flame arresters
- The status of the valves must be indicated from the outside
- A floor drip tray with a minimum capacity of 1 litre must be provided to collect any electrolyte that may escape 1 litre capacity must be provided to collect any electrolytes that may be released.
- Stricter requirements for cable entries.
Fire resistance and room closure.
The GS-certified PRIOLION safety cabinet offers impressive fire resistance of 90 minutes, both from the inside and the outside. The assessment was carried out in accordance with the requirements of DIN EN 14470-1:2004-07 by means of a fire test from the outside to the inside. Under more demanding conditions, the temperature inside the cabinet may only rise by a maximum of 100 Kelvin after 90 minutes of external fire exposure, which minimises the risk of thermal runaway of the stored batteries in the event of a fire.
Smoke tightness and safety features
In view of the high fire risk posed by lithium-ion batteries, the GS test principle stipulates that certified products must guarantee 90 minutes of room sealing in accordance with DIN EN 1363-2:1999-10. The PRIOLION cabinet thus eliminates the risk to the surrounding area for at least 90 minutes in the event of a fire inside.
Another outstanding feature of the GS-tested PRIOLION cabinet is its smoke tightness. The system also has an active fan ex works, which would switch off automatically in the event of a fire.
Three-point locking and temperature control
The permanent three-point locking system of the PRIOLION cabinet meets GS test requirements and ensures maximum safety. The test principle also requires proof of compliance with heating limits in accordance with DIN EN 61439, which is achieved by an intelligent ventilation control system in the PRIOLION cabinet. This process effectively dissipates the heat generated during battery charging from the cabinet. Indicator lights on the control unit provide important information about the status inside the cabinet even when the doors are closed. The fan switches off in the event of a fire.
Alarm function and emergency protection
The PRIOLION cabinet is equipped with a potential-free alarm contact that can be used to send warning messages to a control centre. In the event of an emergency, the power supply to the cabinet can be completely shut off for additional protection.
Material & surface
The safety cabinets are characterised by high-quality materials and versatile surfaces. The standard surface consists of CPL (Continuous Pressure Laminate), a non-combustible panel with a surface coating. This panel is classified as non-combustible according to classification A2 – s1, d0, which guarantees the highest safety standards.
The standard surface has an attractive light grey colour similar to RAL 7035. This not only gives the safety cabinet a modern look, but also ensures good visibility in its surroundings.
Technical data (standard equipment)
- External dimensions: 2250 x 1212 x 664 mm
- Internal dimensions: 1687 x 1004 x 453 mm
- Transport base entry width: 1084 mm
- Transport base entry height: 100 mm
- Power consumption during operation: max. 50 W
- Nominal voltage: 230 V
- Frequency: 50 Hz
- Total power of power strip: Fuse protection (1-phase): 16 A, total power = 3.50 kW; 230 V
It is possible to increase the total power to 11.0 kW at 400 V. Please note the variants.
Tested fire resistance
The safety cabinet offers a tested fire resistance of 90 minutes from the outside to the inside in accordance with DIN EN 14470-1. This minimises the risk of thermal runaway of the stored batteries in the event of a fire. The maximum temperature increase in the interior does not exceed 100 K at any temperature measuring point.
Optional fire suppression system provides additional safety
The optional fire suppression system can further increase the scope for action in the event of a fire. An aerosol is sprayed into the cabinet, which can intervene in the chemical process of the fire to further suppress it.
Fire resistance from the inside out
The cabinet also meets the requirements of DIN EN 1363-2 and offers a tested fire resistance of 90 minutes from the inside out.
Continuously tested, self-closing doors
The cabinet doors are not only self-closing, but have also undergone continuous testing to ensure their reliability.
Suitable for storing and charging lithium-ion batteries
The safety cabinet is suitable for both storing and charging lithium-ion batteries, ensuring flexibility and efficiency.
Internal real fire test
Another highlight is the internal real fire test of a loaded cabinet, which ensures additional safety and reliability.
Design & features
The safety cabinets impress not only with their robust construction, but also with their well-thought-out features for maximum functionality.

FAQ
Standard security cabinets are designed for indoor use, so they cannot be used outdoors.
The fire protection panels installed in the cabinets contain gypsum, which contains a lot of water, which expands when frozen. This deforms the panels. It can no longer be guaranteed that such a cabinet is still sealed or can withstand an explosion.
If you already have a suitable room that is structurally fire-resistant, then you do not necessarily need a safety cabinet to contain the fire.
However, please do not forget that the damage caused by a battery fire involves immense and also toxic contamination, the disposal of which can quickly lead to high costs.
In addition, you may not be able to continue working as usual until the damage has been finally repaired - depending on the location of the damage.
