The ION-LINE safety storage cabinets from asecos offer a safe solution for both storing and charging your batteries. The ION-LINE ULTRA has successfully passed the tests and certification in accordance with the guidelines of the GS principle EK5/AK4 22-01 for safety storage cabinets for the active and passive storage of lithium-ion batteries and has been awarded the GS mark. To obtain the GS mark, the ION-LINE ULTRA safety storage cabinet had to undergo extensive tests and inspections. All tests carried out comply with European product safety requirements. The cabinet also meets the requirements of VDMA Standard Sheet 24994: "Test requirements for fire-resistant storage cabinets for lithium-ion batteries in the event of a thermal runaway". By meeting these two test standards, the ULTRA model is a game changer for safe battery storage.

Size, structure and function of the battery safety cabinet

The sturdy, high-quality and scratch-resistant outer body of the asecos safety cabinet has a powder-coated textured surface and lockable doors with profile cylinder (suitable for locking systems) and locking status indicator (red/green). Permanent locking of the doors is ensured by an automatic 2-point locking system. The doors remain open for approx. 10 seconds after opening and close automatically after a signal tone sounds. The doors can be ordered in either gentian blue or anthracite gray.

With 3-stage warning and optional fire suppression system

To ensure safe storage and loading, the ULTRA model of the asecos ION-Line comes with a pre-installed 3-stage warning system. This includes a smoke detector, a temperature sensor and an acoustic and visual alarm for rapid detection of an emergency without opening the cabinet doors. The alarm system triggers automatically in the event of a fire. The various alarm levels can be differentiated for the control center using the pre-installed relay module. A fire suppression system is available as an option, which is triggered automatically in the event of a fire inside the cabinet and can extend the scope of action for the fire department.

Simple installation and evacuation of the safety storage cabinet

Setting up the safety storage cabinet is made easier by the integrated adjustable feet to compensate for uneven floors, and a factory-installed fan ensures sufficient ventilation and cooling during the loading process.The cabinet can be evacuated immediately in the event of damage thanks to the integrated transport base and transported to a safe location outdoors. The decision is up to the emergency services on site.

There is an integrated vent in the head section to prevent heat build-up during the battery charging process.

Dimensions

The interior dimensions of the safety cabinet are 1050 x 545 x 1633 mm (W x D x H), although the usable interior dimensions may vary depending on the interior fittings. The external dimensions are 1193 x 650 x 1953 mm (W x D x H). The safety storage cabinet has 2 doors with an opening angle of approx. 89.50°. The empty weight of the battery safety storage cabinet is approx. 586 kg, the maximum load is 600 kg. Depending on the equipment, the total weight is approx. 630 kg.

In the interior

Depending on the version, there are 3/4/5/6 insulated shelves inside as storage levels, each with a load capacity of 75 kg, made of powder-coated sheet steel in the color RAL 7035 light grey. In addition, a floor drip tray with a volume of 3 l, also made of powder-coated sheet steel in RAL 7035 light grey, is always included. These are perforated to prevent heat build-up during the loading process.

Smoke-tight construction

In the event of fire, the cabinet is smoke-tight in accordance with the specifications of test standard EK5/AK4 22-01. If the pressure becomes too high, a pressure relief flap opens. As the flue gas is discharged via the pressure relief, it would also be possible to connect the cabinet to an exhaust air system that leads to a non-hazardous location outside.

Robust self-closing doors. Opening with one-hand operation

Thanks to the smooth-running doors, the doors of the safety storage cabinet can be opened with minimal effort and with just one hand. In addition, the doors are permanently locked by means of an automatic 2-point locking system. The doors can be locked with a profile cylinder (locking system compatible) and locking status indicator (red/green). The doors remain open for safe and convenient operation and close automatically after 10 seconds. A warning signal sounds shortly before self-closing.

Double fire resistance from inside to outside and in accordance with the latest VDMA test standard

TheULTRA safety cabinet from asecos offers 90 minutes of fire protection from the outside to the inside (type 90 / type-tested in accordance with EN 14470-1), as well as over 90 minutes of fire resistance when exposed to fire from the inside to the outside. Furthermore, a real fire test was carried out in accordance with the VDMA 24994 test standard in the event of a thermal runaway of the lithium-ion batteries.

GS certification and development work

asecos has developed this safety storage cabinet specifically for the active and passive storage of lithium-ion batteries in accordance with GS test standard EK5/AK4 22-01. The cabinet has successfully passed tests in accordance with the test principle and received the GS mark, which confirms its suitability for the safe storage of new and used rechargeable batteries as well as critical rechargeable batteries.

The most important facts about the EK5/AK4 22-01 test principle at a glance:

• The standardization of the test principles for safety cabinets for the storage of lithium batteries is based on commercially available complete batteries
• Stricter requirements compared to EN 14470-1 in case of fire from outside (temperature increase max. 100 K instead of 180 K for safety storage cabinets)
• The doors may have a maximum closing delay of 10 seconds. Keeping them open permanently is not permitted
• All internal surfaces and built-in equipment must be non-combustible
• The heat lost during the loading process must be dissipated. Heat calculation according to EN 61439-1
• The air exchange must be dimensioned so that 60°C is not exceeded inside the cabinet.
• The escape of hazardous gases must be prevented. Ventilation valves require a flame arrester
• The status of the valves must be indicated from the outside
• A floor drip tray with a capacity of at least 1 liter must be available to collect any electrolytes that are released
• Stricter requirements for cable bushings

The asecos ION Line models are always delivered to the point of use. When you place an order, we will send you a transportation questionnaire. This ensures smooth transportation on the day of delivery.

The asecos safety concept

ION-LINE cabinets have a transport base for internal transportation. In the event of a fire, this can be used to move the cabinet outside. The decision is up to the emergency services on site.

Relay module for alarm level differentiation available ex works, a remote alarm module can be ordered as an option

The cabinet is equipped with potential-free contacts that can be connected to a control center manned around the clock. The alarm levels of the cabinet can be individually differentiated using the standard relay module for the control center. The alarm levels depend on the temperature and smoke development in the cabinet. Alternatively, a remote alarm module (accessory) is also available to notify the person responsible for the system by telephone/SMS/e-mail. Please note that for continuous 24/7 monitoring of the cabinet, the alarm signal must be forwarded quickly so that appropriate measures can be taken immediately.

In addition, all relevant regulations and laws must be complied with. In the event of damage to components of the safety storage cabinets, immediate repair by a qualified asecos employee is necessary.

Notes on warranty and maintenance

The warranty period for ION-Line safety storage cabinets from asecos is 24 months. According to ArbStättV, safety equipment (such as safety cabinets according to EN 14470-1) must be maintained regularly. According to TRGS 526 7.4, the maintenance interval for EN 14470-1 safety storage cabinets should not be longer than one year.

The manufacturer grants a 24-month warranty on ION-Line cabinets. In order to maintain this warranty, the first prescribed maintenance by the manufacturer's customer service is mandatory after 12 months.

It is either possible to order the maintenance package shown in the accessories or a longer-term maintenance contract can be concluded via the manufacturer's customer service department.

If the maintenance contract is chosen, the maintenance agreement is concluded directly between the customer service department and the end customer. After placing the order, you will receive a service request form from us in which you can provide us with your contact details for concluding the maintenance contract.

There are currently no legal regulations for the storage of lithium batteries / lithium-ion batteries. Only VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH issues general safety rules for damage prevention in its publication VdS 3103 : 2019-06 (03).
