In buildings and storage facilities where lithium-ion batteries are stored, damaged cells can pose a high risk potential for employees and the operating and storage technology. Explosive fires in batteries ("thermal runaway") are difficult to control. The PROline 12/20 battery storage cabinet from CEMO offers a suitable economical entry-level solution for this. The battery storage cabinet is suitable for storing smaller lithium-ion batteries.
Size, structure and function of the storage cabinet
The PROline 12/20 battery storage cabinet has 4 storage levels and a total weight of 450 kg. The external dimensions of the cabinet are 60 x 120 x 195 cm (L x W x H). The internal dimensions are 49 x 105 x 166 cm (L x W x H).
Numerous security functions
The lockable door with 2-point locking system locks automatically when the cupboard is closed. The cabinet is also able to close automatically in the event of fire. There is an integrated ventilation opening for exhaust air pipes.
The integrated ventilation opening enables the intended connection to an exhaust air pipe to the outside. The height-adjustable feet and removable skirting board allow the battery storage cabinet to be lowered for positioning and evacuation in an emergency. The smoke detector fitted as standard emits an acoustic signal in the event of a fire.
Possible uses of the PROline 12/20 battery storage cabinet
The double-walled steel cabinet is used as a protective measure fornew lithium batteries with low power (<100 Wh), e.g. power tools or garden tools.
Other (safety) information
The scope of delivery includes warning stickers and safety instructions. The PROline 12/20 battery storage cabinet was tested in a battery fire test with Powertool batteries. The body of the PROline 12/20 battery storage cabinet is powder-coated in the color light grey (RAL 7035) and the door in light red orange (RAL 2008).
General guidelines for battery storage
There are currently no legal regulations for the storage of lithium batteries / lithium-ion batteries. Only VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH issues general safety rules for damage prevention in its publication VdS 3103 : 2019-06 (03). It is advisable to clarify your requirements with your property insurance company in advance.

Standard security cabinets are designed for indoor use, so they cannot be used outdoors.
The fire protection panels installed in the cabinets contain gypsum, which contains a lot of water, which expands when frozen. This deforms the panels. It can no longer be guaranteed that such a cabinet is still sealed or can withstand an explosion.
If you already have a suitable room that is structurally fire-resistant, then you do not necessarily need a safety cabinet to contain the fire.
However, please do not forget that the damage caused by a battery fire involves immense and also toxic contamination, the disposal of which can quickly lead to high costs.
In addition, you may not be able to continue working as usual until the damage has been finally repaired - depending on the location of the damage.
