The problem with limited storage space is often that there is no room for large safety cabinets for storing lithium-ion batteries or that they are too inflexible if the space available in the warehouse changes at short notice. CEMO offers the optimum solution here, which can be expanded at any time and can also be adapted to the needs of your business.

Differences to the Basic charging cabinet
In contrast to the CEMO Basic 8/20 battery charging cabinet, the smoke detector in this version is powered by electricity. In addition, however, the currentless circuit is also included in the smoke detection, a potential-free output for connection to the fire alarm system on the outside of the cabinet, as well as a 12V connection option for accessories such as a combination alarm unit (optical and acoustic).
Equipment
In the premium version, the charging cabinet has an alarm system, a smoke detector with potential-free output for an alarm signal and a technical ventilation system. If heat and/or smoke develops, the power circuit is interrupted. If the door is opened, the power supply is also interrupted by means of a door contact switch. The doors should therefore always be closed during the charging process.
These are charging variants with 4 horizontally arranged 9-socket power strips for the power supply. Either with a 230 V version with 1-phase power supply (3500 W / 16 A) or the 400 V version with 3-phase power supply (2x 3500 W / 2x 16 A).
In the Premium version, the charging cabinet has an acoustic warning tone, heat dissipation during charging with the aid of the built-in fan and a charging stop in the event of a fault or damage. If heat builds up, the power circuit is interrupted by a power-off circuit. If the door is opened, the power supply is also interrupted by means of a door contact switch. The doors should therefore always be closed during the charging process. In addition, the premium version has an improved connection option for combination alarm devices (12V) and a connection to a fire alarm system.
Equipped with the CEMO lockEX lock
CEMO lockEX is an innovative mechanism in the door lock that reliably relieves the pressure of flammable gases inside the cabinet in a controlled manner to effectively prevent explosions.
The design is based on an intelligent spring mechanism which, in the event of a damaged Li-battery exploding, gently opens the enclosure doors to release the resulting pressure and then immediately closes them securely again.
The protection granted by the German Patent and Trademark Office is particularly important here. It has long been known among experts that lithium batteries can not only cause flames and explosive burning of individual cells, but also a gas explosion due to leaking cell vapors. This is the worst case scenario in the event of a battery fire, as it can nullify the entire protective effect in case of doubt and can therefore be the most decisive criterion in the risk assessment.
CEMO lockEX combines fire protection and explosion protection in one product and offers a reliable solution for dealing with potentially dangerous battery fires.
The lockEX technology effectively interrupts the progress of a battery fire. An explosion can occur even before a thermal runaway begins. If the enclosure housing gives way or the doors open, the protective effect can be lost immediately and the burning cells and battery packs are propelled unhindered into the environment at the installation site.
CEMO's lockEX mechanism ensures that the explosion pressure that builds up inside the enclosure is effectively managed. This advanced NO-BANG technology ensures that protection is maintained without restriction, even in the worst-case scenario of a battery fire.
VDMA tested up to 12 kW/h
The battery cabinet has been tested in accordance with VDMA for lithium-ion batteries. The maximum permissible energy density for this system is 12.0 kWh.
VDMA 24994 is a test standard specifically for fire-resistant storage cabinets designed to safely store lithium-ion batteries. It tests whether the cabinet can withstand a thermal runaway, i.e. dangerous overheating and spontaneous combustion of the battery. It is important that the cabinet does not emit any flames or toxic gases to the outside and that the door does not open under pressure. The standard helps companies to significantly increase safety when storing lithium-ion batteries and is regarded as an important benchmark that is increasingly recognized by manufacturers and insurers.
Well equipped in the event of an accident
Critically damaged lithium-ion cells in particular can pose a serious risk to people and equipment in the event of a fire ("thermal runaway"). Dust caused by these fires can settle on the circuit boards of production and operating devices and damage them permanently. This storage cabinet has an MPA-tested fire resistance of 60 minutes from the inside to the outside in accordance with DIN EN 1363-1. A real battery fire test was carried out with an independent university. The air inlet and outlet openings close automatically in the event of a fire. However, the doors should always remain closed during storage.
Robust construction
The storage cabinet is made of robust, fire-resistant components. Special fire protection seals prevent flames from escaping and it has a cold smoke-tight closure system for the openings. The doors are double-leaf and lockable with sturdy locking and suspension. the doors are painted in orange, similar to RAL 2004, and the body in gray, similar to RAL 7035.
Portable use
With the stacking feet, the cabinets can be optimally stored up to a height of 2 units. The stacking feet also allow the cabinets to be driven under. As an option, the cabinet can also be fitted with a fire-resistant and tested cable entry, for example to connect to the in-house fire alarm system.
Guidelines
There are currently no legal regulations for the storage of lithium batteries / lithium-ion batteries. Only VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH issues general safety rules for damage prevention in its publication VdS 3103 : 2019-06 (03). It is advisable to clarify your requirements with your property insurance company in advance.
The manufacturer
CEMO GmbH from Weinstadt has stood for safe storage with imagination and drive for more than 60 years. The company is a pioneer in the field of modern transport and storage container technology and is one of the market leaders in this area.
Future-oriented
Lithium-ion batteries will be indispensable in all industrial applications in the coming years. However, if used improperly, batteries can pose a potential hazard during production, storage and transportation that should not be underestimated. By purchasing this storage cabinet, you protect yourself against major financial losses right from the start.
