Extinguishing fires with lithium-ion batteries is still a major challenge. PyroBubbles® are an excellent extinguishing agent for containing metal fires of all kinds, including those involving lithium-ion batteries. In cooperation with Genius, BAVARIA has developed this extinguisher to make the good extinguishing properties of PyroBubbles® available in a fire extinguisher. It is ideal for fire classes A, B, D and F and has been positively tested by the MPA Dresden in accordance with DIN EN3-7.
The extinguisher is supplied in one version. The bottle contains 50 liters (approx. 12.5 kg) of extinguishing agent. This enables a spraying time of approx. 60 seconds at a spraying range of 4 m. The cylinder has external dimensions of 560x480x1110 mm, with a total weight of 72 kg.

Features and equipment of the extinguisher

The extinguishing agent can be used in a temperature range from -20°C to +60°C.

Good metering and gentle application of the extinguishing agent at a constant low pressure of 2 bar via a fixed pressure regulator.

With a throw range of 4 m, discharge is possible at a safe distance from the source of danger.

With a dimensionally stable 5 m hose and large cross-section as standard, for reliable discharge and the greatest possible operating radius.

The container is mounted on a chassis with two solid rubber wheels on galvanized steel rims, guaranteeing excellent stability and manoeuvrability.

Chrome-plated brass lid and additional safety valve.

Large container opening facilitates maintenance.

The polyester coating of the container provides excellent and long-lasting corrosion protection.

Can be used on electrical systems up to 1000 volts with a minimum distance of one meter.

Properties of PyroBubbles®

PyroBubbles® are a new type of extinguishing agent based on silicon dioxide. Silicon dioxide is also used in the manufacture of glass. The extinguishing granulate can exert its extinguishing effect excellently when conventional extinguishing agents such as water are no longer effective or would cause major damage. PyroBubbles® are also ideal in terms of environmental protection. Liquid fires can be extinguished quickly and easily without the risk of re-ignition and the granulate is less problematic for the environment than the use of water film-forming foam agents (AFFF), for example. PyroBubbles® are an excellent filling material for Genius transport and storage containers. PyroBubbles® are used as granules in containers of the Lio Guard series.
PyroBubbles® have been positively tested by the MPA Dresen and are suitable for solid and liquid flammable substances of fire classes A, B, D and F. They are lighter than sand (approx. 235 kg / m³) and are therefore ideal as a filling material for the storage and transportation of lithium-ion batteries / lithium-ion accumulators. The average grain size is 0.5 to 5 mm. The extinguishing agent is water-repellent and age-resistant. Depending on the application, some of the PyroBubbles can be picked up and reused after use. In addition, the extinguishing agent is able to absorb electrolytes and is characterized by low thermal conductivity and electrical insulation.

Extinguishing effect of PyroBubbles®

PyroBubbles® are temperature-resistant up to a temperature of approx. 1050°C. In the event of a fire, the granules melt and form a closed and thermally insulating layer around the source of the fire, removing the oxygen. Combustible reaction gases are reduced thanks to the pores in the spheres. The high specific heat capacity absorbs heat energy and the temperature is reduced thanks to the cooling effect. Furthermore, combustible material is shielded by the low thermal conductivity. PyroBubbles® are also suitable for extinguishing metal fires and liquid fires.
